Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall

Summer is quickly coming to a close.  I hope you took some time for fun with family and friends.  We've had a great summer here at Nortridge, and we're ready to move into fall with the release of NLS 4.7.3.  This release features

Merchant Partners credit card processing within NLS and via the borrower/customer portal, unattended scheduling of NACHA file creation, Nortridge MailSource functionality, and multi-currency support.

We'll also continue our effort to be a resource for all of you.  We hope you're enjoying Webinar Wednesdays, and we're excited to see so many clients joining us in the Nortridge Online Community.  If you haven't already joined, you can sign up here. Be sure to post your questions and comments and share your ideas with other NLS users.

This issue of our eNews includes a helpful article about the pros and cons of servicing loans in-house as well as an informative industry report about consumer lending.  Be sure to check them out.

Enjoy the rest of summer, and as always, I'd love to hear from you.  Please feel free to contact me any time.

The Pros and Cons of
Servicing Loans In-house
10 Questions Lenders Need to Ask Themselves
By Judy McKee

Running a profitable lending business; especially one that is experiencing dramatic growth or a changing regulatory climate; can be a difficult task.

Often, one of the key dilemmas faced by the lending businesses is this: Should we spend time on lending and originating and outsource the servicing of the loans? Or, should we attempt to do both?

During my conversations with customers, I hear many reasons for both options. I encounter lenders looking for software in order to bring the servicing back in-house. The reasons vary. Some lenders simply do not trust the data and the reports they receive from third-party servicers. Or, they are concerned that they won't have the flexibility in what they can offer their customers, or the reports they receive. They may also believe they can save money by bringing it in-house.

Industry Profile: Consumer Lending

From: First Research

Report Overview:

Companies in this industry make unsecured cash loans to consumers. Major companies include Advance America, Cash America, DFC Global, EZCORP, and Sallie Mae (all based in the US), as well as Provident Financial and Tesco Personal Finance (both based in the UK) and Orient Corporation (Japan).

Consumer lending companies generally do business locally or within their country of origin, but globalization and greater access to the Internet are spurring companies to pursue international growth. Many US-based companies operate in Mexico, Canada, Europe, Australia, and the UK. Some companies operate online lending websites that can reach customers around the globe.

The US consumer lending industry consists of about 3,500 companies with combined annual revenue of about $35 billion and is forecast to grow at a low rate over the next two years. Key challenges include increased regulation, persistently high unemployment, and slow growth in consumer spending.
