The End of an Era:
On May 7, 2006, Major Jamie 1/14 Hotel Company became the first Marine in the Operation: Prayers & Letters Program. Major Jamie was serving in Iraq when he suffered a brain aneurysm. He returned to the states in a coma and had numerous surgeries and setbacks.
Over the next two and a half year, Major Jamie (who has since been medically-discharged) made amazing strides in his recovery, with his memory and speech fully returning. Jamie's father assured us that each and every letter that was sent to Jamie was read, either by him or his family. He wanted us to know that the letters help both patients and parents during the recovery process.
Major Jamie and his family received a lot of support and love through those letters when they needed it the most. When they felt is was time to leave the program, Jamie's father had this to say:
Your program is wonderful, especially in the beginning when every one seems so lost and alone (when I knew that we weren't). Thank you for all that you do and did for us.
Poppa - father of Major Jamie, USMC
Now, 178 participants later, we have sent more than 99,000 cards and letters to the recovering heroes who gave all of us the honor and the privilege of offering our heartfelt words of support and encouragement during their recovery processes. The number of prayers said for these 178 participants, as well as those said for their families and fellow service members, is immeasurable.
