a SWEET valentine gift without the calories!

Holy Cross Orthodox Church Greensboro, NC

The P.O. Box was overflowing with love this month!  It included a box from the children at Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Greensboro, NC.   These crafty kids sent construction paper hearts, funny valentines and these cute foil kisses (pictured above) each with special messages for our OpPAL participants.

Thanks kiddos!

Greetings!

Caring is giving from the heart......

loving marines

There are numerous organizations at both the national and local levels that benefit worthy causes.   Of course, any organization that benefits our troops is very close to my heart. It's one of the reasons I was so drawn to Marine Parents.

An email I received from an individual this week made me pause and remember that, sadly, there are dishonest people out there in the world who try to take advantage of the goodness in others. Unfortunately, some succeed. I would urge you to ask a lot of questions when

approached by someone who wants money from you to help fund a cause.

Often times, their pleas pull at our heart strings, which, I suppose, is ultimately their goal. Sympathy translates into dollars for them! It is very unfortunate that many caring, well-intentioned people fall victim to various types of scams. Remember, you should ask for proof that they are an approved 501(c) (3) charity. Legitimate organizations will not hesitate to provide that documentation for you. Or, you can do a little research on your own by picking up the phone and dialing the IRS toll free at 1-877-829-5500 to check on a charity's non-profit status.

With that being said, there are many, many organizations and individuals worthy of your support. Marine Parents IS an approved 501(c) (3) and all of the Marine Parents' outreach programs benefit our troops. They are supported by YOU with your prayers, your time, and your dollars.

Thank you, as always, for your unwavering support of such an important organization.

God Bless.

We Are So Thankful For Our Volunteer Writers!
Pier 1 group
Jacquie with her Pier 1 Imports friends.
I was very excited to get a wonderful package of cards from a great group of gals who work at Pier 1 Imports in Florida. The friends met for a holiday gathering at organizer Jacquie's home to write cards to all the Operation Prayers and Letters participants.

Jacquie is also a Marine mom. She is very mindful of the sacrifices the men and women in the military make, along with their families, when they take the oath to serve and protect our great nation.

Jacquie went above and beyond by sorting the bundles of cards alphabetically, binding them with rubber bands, AND adding a donation for postage to boot! Simply awesome!

A huge shout out to Jacquie and her Pier 1 friends!  I hope to get another package from you soon!

Where Are They Now?
A Quick Peek in on Cpl. Jed

I have a lot of news to pass along about Jed since he opted to leave the program in June 2013.

Congratulations are in order as Jed was promoted to Corporal in March of last year! In mid-May, he underwent surgery to have more of his right leg amputated due to the end of his femur being irritated and swollen. The surgery will enable Jed to walk better with prosthesis, as both of his legs will be the same length.

Unfortunately, Jed is still experiencing some discomfort in that leg, so let's lift up some much needed prayers of healing!  We need him to continue along on the road to recovery because, and this is the best news of all,
Jed and his wife Anna are parents-to-be!!!   We will be waiting for news later this year to see whether their little bundle of joy will be a girl or a boy.

Ten tiny little fingers that always want to play,
That never stop exploring the wonder of today.
Ten tiny little fingers that from the very start,
Will reach out for tomorrow yet always hold your heart.
