The literary non-profit River of Words has announced
its 2006 finalists and Grand Prize winners. Winners
and their families will be honored on Saturday, April
22 in a public ceremony at The Library of Congress in
Washington, DC. Winners and finalists from California,
where River of Words is located, will be honored at
an
earlier public ceremony/poetry reading/art exhibition/
reception at the San Francisco Public Library’s Koret
Auditorium on Saturday, April 8th. Poet Robert Hass
will
emcee both events.
Robert Hass and
director
Pamela
Michael select each
year's poetry winners from tens of thousands of
entries from around the world. The art winners are
chosen by children's book author and illustrator
Thacher Hurd, who will present the art awards at the
San Francisco event. Winning art from children
around the world—including this year’s International
Prize, awarded to 11-year-old Leung Man Wai of
Hong Kong—
will be on display in the Library’s Fisher Children’s
