Partner Spotlight on
YMCA

Our community partner, the Lincoln YMCA, takes pride in promoting holistic health - spirit, mind and, body - for  youth, families, and the community year round, but November is an especially big month for wellness at the "Y"!

November kick starts preparations for the "Giving Tree" event where all the Lincoln YMCA locations come together this year in support of Elliott Elementary School. Partnering with the Lincoln community, the YMCA Giving Tree program provides gifts to over 400 students so that they will have new toys, clothes, and games for their winter break.

On Thanksgiving Day, the YMCA Turkey Trot races are a fun, healthy, family-focused way to start the holiday that includes prizes and refreshments.

November is also National Diabetes Awareness Month. As a leading health and wellness voice, the YMCA encourages people to learn their risks for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and take the steps to prevent the disease.

Nebraska Whole Child Project

Aerobic fitness has been shown to strongly correlate with performance on standardized academic tests, as well as having extensive health benefits for students. When launched, the  Nebraska Whole Child Project  will provide health and wellness data, that  helps school boards create a culture of wellness to support student success. The project is an effort led by the NE Assn. of School Boards in collaboration with Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln.

Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln, Lincoln Public Schools, and the Lincoln Board of Education will present the Whole Child Project at the upcoming State Education Conference on November 20th.
