Greetings!

Welcome to August.  In honor of the 8th month of the year,  it's time to learn a little about the man for which the month is named.

Full name:  Imperator Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus Divi Filius Augustus

Reign: 16 January 27 BC - 19 August AD 14

Job: 1st Emporer of the Roman Empire

Quote: On his deathbed, Augustus boasted "I found a Rome of bricks; I leave to you one of marble".

For those in Kentucky, we'll call this a 'throwback' introduction to August 2012.  However, I'm guessing you might have forgotten these facts so it never hurts to learn them again.

Take care!

October is Outreach Month

By: Ashley Sells (KYSITE)

I woud consider opening the eyes of the next generation to what we love to do each day is an important task for the year. At a young age, children learn red, yellow and green and what they represent.  But a step further would be to explain to them why a signal is there or why a roadway was built.  As children grow and they are getting ready for college, why not share with them information that could guide their major decision.

October has been deemed Outreach Month by the SDITE Information, Communication & Outreach (IC&O) Committee in which we are challenging the SDITE Membership to do one presentation to whatever age group they see fit (elementary, middle, high, or college).

Presentations are on the website that can be used and modified. Once you complete a presentation, please email me so we may share your presentation with others. If you have any questions, please let me know!

ITE Public Agency Membership

At the ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibit, the ITE International Board of Directors voted to provide a new option for public agency membership.  Here are some of the details:

  • The existing agency dues system will be retained. The proposal was to add another option so that agencies can pick the one best suited for them
  • The new agency dues option is attempting to get more public sector people involved in ITE
  • The new agency option will offer flat fee rates that allow the agency unlimited members under that flat fee.
  • The flat fee structure was developed for the following agencies:
    • City
    • County
    • Regional planning agency
    • State/Province
  • Each of the aforementioned agencies will be divided into small, medium, and large based on the citizen population to which they serve.
  • The flat fee rate will be based on the type of agency and their size. For example, a small city will have a smaller rate than a large city. A small state will have a larger fee than a small city.
  • Agency ITE members, under the new option, will have all of the privileges afforded to regular members except receiving a hard copy of the ITE Journal.

Stay tuned for more information from your local Section as more information is obtained on how this will roll out.

LeadershipITE Wants You!

The first class of ITE's LeadershipITE program graduated on Sunday, August 10, 2014 in Seattle, WA at the ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibit.
SDITE LeadershipITE Graduates posing with Distiguished SDITE Members
The inaugural lass would like to encourage you to consider an application, which are due September 15, 2014.  For those with questions, the SDITE graduates would be glad to answer questions either individually or as part of a webinar overviewing the program.  Please contact Scott Walker with interest in either option (sooner is better considering the deadline is right around the corner).

Silly Signs

Thanks to Cindy Pionke (TSITE) for passing this along!

Coast to Coast...in a Tesla

A Kentucky man drove his electric Tesla vehicle from coast to coast, using the company's "SuperChargers" along the way.  Each charge is good for about 265 miles.

There are 71 Supercharger stations open in the United States, and Glenney says he used 28 of them in his cross-country trip.
