    IC&O Committee

    We need your help.

If you know someone who has retired or changed jobs, please let us know.  We have learned that there is a great number of old email address and phone numbers that we have on record.  We need your help in identifying this information.

Please send Scott a note and he will coordinate with ITE and others to make sure this information is passed along.

In the near future, the Information, Communication & Outreach (IC&O) committee will be working with the Sections as well to help clean up some of the records.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Officer/Member Profile

This month, we meet Sean Coleman, recipient of the 2013 Joseph M. Thomas Outstanding Young Member Award and participant in the inaugural class of LeadershipITE:

    1.  Name: Sean Coleman

    2.  City/State: Atlanta, GA

    3.  Place of Work: Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. / 9 Years

    4.  Title: Traffic Engineer / Associate

    5.  Degree(s):

    - BS in Civil Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology (2004)

    6.  Certifications:

    - Professional Engineer: GA, SC, AL, TN, and MI

    - IMSA Traffic Signals Level II Field

    7.  Place of Birth / Family:

Born and Raised in Augusta, GA where I met my wife in high school (she went to a rival high school - common theme in our life, see below), and I stalked her at a Chick-Fil-A to get her to notice me (another theme in our life)... we are now celebrating our 8 year anniversary and have 2 beautiful little girls, Caroline (3.5 years) and Lily (1.5 years)

    8.  What do you do day-to-day?

Manage and collaborate with our traffic operations team on a number of signal timing, operations, and design projects, and spend a large portion of my week in the field performing active management of traffic signal and communications systems.   I'm not as involved on the day-to-day production that I was just a few years ago in my career, as now I'm more in the role of training younger staff and providing QA/QC on these production tasks.
    9. What are your Technical Interests?
I am a traffic signal timing, system, and ITS geek through and through, but I dabble in transportation planning, traffic impact studies, and roundabout design.
     10. What are your hobbies?
I love sports, especially GT football and basketball (though it causes me a lot of pain in my life), and I'm getting into photography, I'm teaching myself guitar, and as the father of two young daughters, I can sing the entire Frozen and Little Mermaid soundtracks a' cappella.

    11. In what capacity have you served SDITE in the past?

I really am just starting to get involved in SDITE, but I've been very involved in my local sections. First TSITE, and now with GAITE as the previous 2012-2013 Summer Seminar chair and now on the Board as the current Secretary-Treasurer. I am also one of the five SDITE representatives with the Leadership ITE program with International ITE.
    12.  Five Quick Questions:
    - Coke or Pepsi? Coke...I'm from the ATL!

    - Dogs or Cats?  Dogs all the way...mine loves me no matter how dumb I am.

    - Telephone or Email?  Electronic mail

    - Pen or Pencil?  Pen, even though pencil and eraser would be helpful since I can't spell, have terrible handwriting, and wear out some white out strips.

    - Yellow Jacket / Bulldog / Other? Yellow Jacket...even though wife is a Bulldog (UGA, not a literal bulldog); I don't allow any red in my house.

    12.  Three Interesting Facts About You:

    1.  The Coleman's (me and my sisters in particular) take karaoke very, very seriously

    2.  Stepped foot in all 48 continuous United States before the age of 14

    3. Middle name is Herbert (AKA Herbie)... many think that gives them authority to make fun of me, but I'm named after my granddad who was an All American football player at Notre Dame, won a National Championship, and played in the NFL... so, you still want to make fun of my middle name?!

    Curbside Haiku

Your next installment of Curbside Haiku...

The New York City Department of Transportation launched a safety education and public art campaign in November 2011.  Artist John Morse published a series of twelve art/haiku signs that were installed city-wide to promote road safety. These signs were placed near eye-level at high-crash locations near cultural institutions and schools.  The next several issues of The Connector will feature a new haiku. Enjoy!
