Honor Society Inductions

On Monday, April 25, 2016, Resurrection students were inducted into the following honor societies: Diakonia Honor Society, International Thespian Society, Societa Onoraria Italica, Modern Music Masters, Mother Celine Scholars Program, Mu Alpha Theta, National Art Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society, National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, Science National Honor Society. Congratulations to our students on their outstanding academic achievements!
Class of 2019 Mother Celine Scholars 


Congratulations to the twenty-seven members of the Class of 2019 who will be participating in the Mother Celine Scholars Program. Students invited into the program follow a rigorous course of study. These gifted and motivated students are provided advanced academic experiences in combination with cultural enrichment and service opportunities. In addition to the variety of advanced course options, students in the Mother Celine Scholars Program are offered multi-disciplinary opportunities that focus on research, creative problem-solving, collaborative relationships, values based leadership, ethical decision making and social justice.  Mother Celine Scholars will be awarded a diploma of distinction at graduation.
 
The Class of 2019 Mother Celine Scholars include Lauren Abbatacola, Maya Austin, Victoria Creed, Kayla DeCicco, Rachel Dietz, Kayla DiFranco, Sarah Erickson, Gabrielle Ferguson, Abbey Garcia, Janna George, Ella Goworowski, Emily Kadus, Lauren Kinel, Caroline Komosa, Justyna Kukulka, Giuliana La Porte, Kirsten Lengfelder, Morgan McCarthy, Madeline Michalik, Erin Nolan, Gabrielle O'Hehir, Isabella Salerno, Aoife Swan, Alexandra Trekas, Kiarra Villaraza, Giang Vu and Mary Claire Weber.  Congratulations to these students and their families!

Sr. Donna Marie Honored by with the Inspire Award
 
On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, Sr. Donna Marie Wolowicki, C.R. was honored by Presence Resurrection Medical Center with the Inspire Award in recognition of her lifelong dedication to promoting healthy communities in the Northwest Chicago region.  Sr. Donna began her career as an intensive care nurse while earning her Master's Degree in Nursing from Loyola University and later a Master's Degree in Business Administration from North Park University.  From 1989 to 2011 Sr. Donna led Resurrection Medical Center's operations as its Executive Vice President and CEO.  Sr. Donna also serves on the board of Solidarity Bridge, an organization that serves Latin American communities with healthcare services to families living in poverty.  She is also on the board of Maryville, which supports children and families in crisis, and on the board of McGivney Centers of Hope and Healing, which provides care to women with difficult pregnancies.


As President of Resurrection College Prep High School we are blessed to have Sr. Donna as a leader and mentor to our staff, faculty and students.  Resurrection students Michelene Janesku '16 and Kelsey Janesku '16 spoke at the Inspire Awards Ceremony on behalf of the Resurrection College Prep High School community in our appreciation for all that Sr. Donna contributes to our school.  Congratulations to Sr. Donna on this special recognition!  
Fine Arts Festival Continues

Resurrection hosted a special assembly on Thursday, April 28, 2016 featuring selections of the musical pieces by the Jazz Band, Chamber Ensemble, Concert Choir, Women's Choir and Concert Band. Special thanks to the student musicians from Notre Dame College Prep who joined us at this performance.  The Spring Fine Arts Festival includes performances and exhibits by all of Resurrection's Fine Arts disciplines, including art, dance, drama and music. Parents Club Meeting - Tuesday, May 10 at 7 pm in the Library ~ all Resurrection parents and guardians are welcome to attend. The guest speaker will be Resurrection Guidance Counselor Elissa Lopez on the topic "Getting a Jump Start on College Planning."  All are welcome to attend!

There will be several Parents Club board vacancies for the 2016-17 school year.  All parents, particularly underclassmen parents, are strongly encouraged to consider becoming more involved by taking a position on the Parents Club board.  For more information contact Alisa Martorano at amartorano@reshs.org or 773.775.6616 Ext 142.

Unforgettable Edibles Graduation Catering 

Unforgettable Edibles catering company is offering a fundraising opportunity for Resurrection for the graduation season. Unforgettable Edibles will donate 10% of the proceeds back to Resurrection from any Resurrection family who places a catering order this season.  Resurrection Class of 2016 or incoming freshmen families are welcome to participate.  The offer may be used for a graduation party or First Communion party and the offer is good until July 31, 2016.  Check out their menu and this fundraising opportunity for our school.

Res Punzel Project


On Monday, May 23 the Science Club, in conjunction with the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program, is hosting the annual ResPunzel hair donation program.  All hair types are accepted, except dyed, bleached or permed hair. 

Hair stylists will be available during lunch and seminar to cut 8 or more inches from all students and staff members who are willing to donate.  All donated hair is used to make wigs for cancer patients.

"Res Reads" Selection 

The Res Reads Club has selected We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for the library-sponsored all-school read this year.  Students will be able to purchase a copy of the book from the Resurrection Library for $5, or they can purchase the e-book on Amazon for $3. Several copies are also available to check out in the Res Library.  

Check out this NPR article about a program in Sweden that gave a copy of this book to every 16 year-old student.  Also, check out the the author's Ted Talk on which this book is based is also included in this article.  Information about Resurrection programs related to the book will be announced in the fall.
