Toiletry Drive
February 1 - 5, 2016 

In conjunction with Catholic Schools Week, a toiletry drive will be held and all donations will go to New Hope Food Pantry.  Student collections will be made in their English classes.
       
Freshmen: deodorant and soap
Sophomores: toothbrushes and toothpaste
         Juniors: Hair care items (i.e. brushes, combs, hair ties)
         Seniors: feminine hygiene products
         Staff: lotion and moisturizer

Res Readers Book Drive 
February 8 to 19, 2016
The Res Readers Book Drive to benefit the organization "Chicago Books to Women in Prison" will be held Monday, February 8 to Friday, February 19, 2016.  In particular, the following books are in high need: fiction, young adult booksdictionariesinstructional foreign language books and books in Spanish. Books will be collected in the Resurrection Library.
 
Gala Raffles & Auctions Still Accepting Donations
 
The Resurrection Charity & Truth Gala is just 3 weeks away and will be held on February 20. Make your reservations and check out ALL the ways you can support the Gala  - by placing a Well Wisher ad, donating a bottle of wine, regifting items for our baskets and auction, donating gift certificate or helping solicit donated items.
 
Ads (well wisher or business adsare still being accepted and the deadline has been extended and can be sent through Wednesday, February 3. All student-athletes and at least one parent are required to attend.  These meetings are a great opportunity to meet the coaching staff as well as other athletes and parents.

Congratulations Golden Apple Nominees

Over twenty percent of the Resurrection College Prep High School faculty were recently nominated for the esteemed Golden Apple Award for their outstanding work as teachers and mentors.

Congratulations to the eleven nominees (pictured above left to right): Dawn Konow (Science), Elisha Kando (Mathematics), Mary Katherine Bohlander (Fine Arts), Annie Hipple (Science), Marianne Boe (Social Sciences), Joe Lascon (Technology), Noreen Maluchnik (English),  Megan Loughran (World Languages), Nancy Giustino (English), Mary Jane Kowalski (World Languages) and Mike Longo (Religious Studies and Fine Arts).

Mr. Mike Longo Selected for NCEA
Lead. Learn. Proclaim Award

Resurrection Religious Studies teacher and Chamber director Mr. Mike Longo was recently selected to receive the Lead. Learn. Proclaim. Award by the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA). The NCEA has a long standing tradition of honoring and recognizing excellence and distinguished service in Catholic school education and Mr. Longo will receive this award in San Diego, California in March 2016. 

Mr. Longo has been the coordinator of the Northwest Side Hunger Walk for many years and knows that Resurrection Catholic High School has a real influence on how their students know that they can make a true difference in living out their faith in the community. He has also been the advisor for the school's Key Club which works with Misericordia Home for Children and Adults with Special Needs and St. Mary of Providence for Girls and Women with Special Needs. Many of the school's young women and alumna volunteer and fundraise for these organizations. A member of the Fine Arts and Religious Studies Departments faculty, Mr. Longo is committed to helping his students "come to know the God-given dignity that is found within each one of them."
 

Jaque Gerlach '16 Receives Chicago Bears Game Changer Coin Award


On January 28, 2016, Jaque Gerlach '16 was presented with the Chicago Bears Game Changer Coin Award at Halas Hall.  The coin was presented to her by Chairman of the Chicago Bears George McCaskey.  The coin is presented to employees who work Bears games that far exceed expectations in relation to a guest experience.  There are only a limited number of coins presented. While working at a Bears game on November 1, 2015, Jaque encountered an elderly guest who fell and was severely injured.  She called First Aid on her two way radio and stayed with the guest until first aid personnel arrived and proceeded to escort the guest with first aid personnel to ensure that the guest was alright.

"Experience Res" Day
7th grade girls are welcome to a special day on
Friday, February 12, 2016 ~ 8 am to 3 pm  
  
Students will rotate through the nine academic areas at Resurrection, meet with teachers and will learn about our classes, the block schedule, clubs and activities. 


AdventuRES in Science
 
The Resurrection Science National Honor Society is hosting AdventuRES in Science on Friday, February 19, 2016, from 6 to 8 pm for girls and boys in 1st - 4th grade.  The evening will feature fun science experiments, a scavenger hunt, and goodie bags! Advance registration is required at www.reshs.org and the cost $10 per child.

Good luck at State Regionals!
Congratulations to Olivia Canova '16 for being named GCAC Athlete/Bowler of the Year for the second year in a row! At the January 30th GCAC Tournament Olivia Canova broke the school record for a 6 game series - her total of 1341 took 1st place in the tournament for a 223 average for the day, beating the old record by 18 pins. Congrats also go out to Peyton LaValley '17 for her 6 game series of 1255, 2nd place in the tournament, for a 209 average for the day which is 4th best all time.

And congrats to all Varsity team members: Sarah Beck '17, Olivia Canova '16, Lauren Gawlinski '17, Izabela Giglione '16, Peyton LaValley '17 and Meredith Nowotarski '17 on breaking the school record for team high 6 game series by totaling 5712 (old record was 5702) and defeating the second place team (Loyola) by a whopping 930 pins in a dominating performance in the GCAC Tournament. Congratulations to JV bowling members Sammi Dahlstrom '19, Mairead Dunne '19, Natalie Markech '17, Mary McHugh '19, Vianka Moreno '16, Kathleen Serrano '18 and Kayla Vargas '18 on a fantastic undefeated season and a GCAC Championship!

The team will play the IHSA Regionals on February 6th at Habetler Bowl. 
Come show your support for the bowling team as they enter the IHSA State Series!

Basketball Season Wrapping Up
Congratulations to senior and Varsity basketball team member Maddie Larsen '16 who has been named January Athlete of the Month!  Way to go!  Basketball is in the midst of GCAC tournament play.  The Freshmen and Junior Varsity teams ended their season on Sunday, January 31 after a successful run in the tournament.  Congratulations on a great season Freshmen and Junior Varsity Basketball!  Varsity won their first round of tournament play against Bishop McNamara on Saturday.  They play McAuley at Montini on Tuesday, February 2 at 7:00 pm. 

Adult Spirituality Course - A Walk with the Historical Jesus
Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 pm 
February 23, March 8 & 22 and April 5
$50 per person - All are welcome to participate!

Join Mr. Mike Longo for an adult spirituality course that will explore the struggles that we face today and the struggles that Jesus faced in his world.  In the course, participants will address these issues as we walk together to live out Jesus' life and message in our world today.
 

"Feed My Starving Children" Volunteer Opportunity

All Resurrection students and families are invited to join the Resurrection National Honor Society on March 19, 2016 to package meals at the "Feed My Starving Children" location in Libertyville.  Students can sign up in room 216 or contact Ms. Konow.

Tuition Assistance and Scholarship Application Process

The application process for tuition assistance and scholarships begins in January of each year when the PSAS (Private School Aid Service) applications become available on the day of the Entrance Exam. Applications will be available in the main office. In addition, you can download the application here. The PSAS application is the application for tuition assistance and must be completed for many need-based scholarship opportunity as well. PSAS applications are due back to the PSAS company before their March 18, 2016 deadline
 
 
 
 
Scholarship applications will be available beginning March 1, 2016. Applications are available in the main office and on the school's website. Scholarship applications are due Monday, April 4, 2016. Both the scholarships and the tuition assistance awards are announced by the beginning of June.

Scholarship Opportunity - John P. and Margaret M. Loftus Scholarship
 
The John P. and Margaret M. Loftus Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of John P. and Margaret M. Loftus and was established by their family as a memorial to their parents who believed education is the key to a successful future and that education creates opportunities for that success. The $500-$2000 scholarship is awarded to student(s) who work to their full academic capacity and have a strong work ethic; show leadership and community involvement; are respected by their peers and teachers and demonstrate financial need by completing the 2015-16 PSAS online  or in the main office and are due back by February 15, 2016.
