Measles Information

As you know, cases of measles have recently been reported in more than a dozen states, including Illinois. Below are some important facts about measles from the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH):

  • Measles is a serious respiratory infection can be dangerous to children.

  • Symptoms include a high fever and a rash of tiny red spots that spreads from the head to the rest of the body.

  • Measles is spread when infected people breathe, sneeze or cough. It is extremely contagious.

  • The best way to protect against measles is to get the measles vaccine.

If you or your child has not been vaccinated for measles we strongly encourage you to contact your healthcare provider to discuss getting the vaccine.
