50-Year Anniversary of Peace Corps
"Peace Corps Week" was celebrated from February 23-March 1, 2014 as the Peace Corps celebrated its 50-year anniversary. Officially founded on March 1, 1961 the Peace Corps sends Americans abroad to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world. The mission of the Peace Corps is to promote world peace and friendship.

Resurrection students had the opportunity to learn about the Peace Corps and the experiences of two returned volunteers, Joe Jaycox (Venezuela, 1962) and Nicole Redmond (Guinea, 2004). The speakers spoke to social studies and religious studies students in the Little Theatre and visited the Accelerated U.S. History class (photo above).
Resurrection alumna and 41st Ward Alderman Mary O'Connor also attended the presentation to show her support for the many years of service provided by Peace Corp volunteers and the on-going service that Resurrection students provide to the community.
