Newsletter- September 5, 2015

Greetings!
Here we are on Labor Day weekend. Our weather continues to be gorgeous and it would appear that the hot muggy weather we had in August may have transitioned to drier and cooler air. As I write this newsletter there are tens of thousands of False Albacore going crazy in Cape Cod waters and waters a bit west of there in Buzzards Bay and Westport. We have had a good run of Bonito and their numbers are slowing as we eagerly await the arrival of the False Albacore. I have seen some video footage shot by anglers fishing the Cape waters and the False Albacore surface blitzes look more akin to Bluefish blitzes.

With all the hype of what False Albacore flies and lures to use... I dare say that when these fish are feeding as reflected in these videos, just about anything on the end or your fly or light tackle line is probably going to bring a hookup.  As these massive schools of Albies migrate west after decimating and scattering the bait, we who fish in Newport area waters will soon experience the same flat out crazy catching. We have had tons of bait in our waters over the last month or so with very little fish molesting it. That is going to change very soon as these fields of Albies continue to make their way into our waters. I have some very good dates open for charters, call me to discuss what might work for you.

This is a very short newsletter as I'm busy between guiding, giving fly casting lessons, creating a new fly fishing services company and developing the company's marketing program that will be implemented over the next several months. Beginning in 2016 our new company, the Rhode Island School of Fly Fishing, will go live. This newsletter will fill you in on some of the details and provide links to our new Facebook page and Website.

Thanks, Jim Barr

Rhode Island School of Fly Fishing
The Rhode Island School of Fly Fishing is brand new. We formed the company last month and have made great progress in a very short time. We felt there was a clear need for a fly fishing services company to based in southern New England that would bring to the table both high quality and affordable classroom and field training programs teaching fly fishing , fly casting and fly tying for fresh and saltwater anglers alike. The school is owned and operated by three partners, Capt. Jim Barr, Capt. Bob Hines (both U.S. Coast Guard Captains), and John Lemont, Esq. We will be providing individual and group instruction for beginner, intermediate and advanced fly anglers, and those who have never fly fished but who are interested in learning the sport. For more information on the background of our group, please visit our website.

We have already begun providing limited services as we continue implementing our marketing plan while simultaneously securing sponsors and venues where we will hold our training. Beginning in 2016 RISFF will be providing a full array of fly fishing, fly casting, and fly tying instruction and presentation services, along with professional and licensed fresh and saltwater guide services. Our primary training venues will be held at
Addieville East Farms in Mapleville, RI and Bass Pro Shops in Foxboro, MA.

We are based in Newport, Smithfield and Cumberland, RI and will be delivering our services in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. On staff are two International Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Fly Casting Instructors.  Staff members have extensive fly fishing experience in North and South America and the Carribbean and in other parts of the world. Our partners are officially retired from business and law enforcement.

Captains Barr and Hines are licensed professional fresh and saltwater fishing guides operating our own guide services, and John Lemont is an attorney in private practice with an extensive angling resume. RISFF is a unique fly fishing services company because not only do we possess extensive fly fishing experience in numerous and varied venues, but we also have significant experience training anglers as well as professionals in business and law enforcement.

To our knowledge there is no other fly fishing school in the country (independent or owned by fly fishing retailers) that offers the depth of fishing experience, training program diversity, attention to detail and instructor experience than what is provided at the Rhode Island School of Fly Fishing. Our programs are fully packed with valuable information with no "filler" common in other fly fishing schools. We deliver powerful training programs at very reasonable prices that provide
a very strong value proposition for our customers.

Please visit our website and Facebook page for additional information about our new venture. Both are still under development as we continue to refine our program offerings and training schedule, so please check back for updates. We are very excited about our new company and the great things we will bring to the angling community.
My best,
Capt. Jim Barr

Fly Fishing Quote
"It is the constant- or inconstant- change, the infinite variety in fly-fishing that binds us fast. It is impossible to grow weary of a sport that is never the same on any two days of the year".
