Watercolor Artist, Shin Jong Sik, Transforms the Everyday into the Extraordinary Using Mission Gold Watercolors!
Watercolor artist, Shin Jong Sik

Master water colorist, Shin Jong Sik, has a gift for transforming everyday scenes into exciting, vibrant works of art.  Shin, who lives and works in South Korea, is a prolific painter who has had 13 solo exhibitions since 1993, as well as numerous group shows throughout Korea.  A renowned artist, Shin has been invited to participate in more than 180 group art exhibitions.

The beauty in Shin's work stems, in part, from his innate ability to observe, capture and translate his subject matter on paper in a manner that is insightful and beautiful.  His interesting compositions and skillful use of light and shadow add depth and brilliance to his paintings.  We become immersed in them.  Shin's talent is also evident in his proficiency at creating textures.  Whether he is painting lace, brass, fruit, glass or nature, the textures he renders are believable.

Shin Jong Sik's application of color make his paintings especially stunning to view.  From soft, delicate details to bold, sweeping brushstrokes, Shin skillfully wields his brush, resulting in paintings that are vivid and dynamic.  They convey a mood that elicits a response from us.  Shin paints exclusively with Mission Gold Watercolors, a new premium line of watercolors made by Mijello.  Mission Gold is made with more pigment and no thickener, aiding Shin in achieving magnificent intensity and brilliance in his paintings.

In addition to being an artist, Shin Jong Sik has authored two watercolor books.  His book, Technique Expressive & Application, instructs readers in essential watercolor fundamentals and special techniques, as well as more advanced concepts.  In this book, readers can follow and learn techniques including how to employ items such as plastic wrap, salt, spray bottles, toothbrushes and masking tape to render varied surfaces.  Each project begins with a materials needed list and a pencil drawing. The step-by-step lessons are beautifully illustrated and conclude with one of Shin's finished paintings.  Shin Jong Sik's book, The Display of Light, is an inspiring collection of his still life paintings, landscapes, seascapes and floral paintings.

Shin Jong Sik is actively involved in his area's art communities.  He is the sub-commissioner of the Korean Art Association as well as the director of the Seoul Art Association and Changwon Art Association.  Shin is also a member of the Kyungnam Professional Artists Association.

A New Generation Can Learn to Draw With Jon Gnagy!

Martin/F. Weber Co. Reissues Jon Gnagy's Popular Book, Learn To Draw

Martin/F. Weber Co. is proud to announce the enhanced reissue of one our most popular books: Learn To Draw™, by Jon Gnagy.  Gnagy, a self-taught artist, is fondly remembered by many for his NBC series You Are An Artist which aired from 1946 until 1950.

As America's original TV art instructor, Gnagy captivated and inspired generations with his reassurance that anyone could draw: "Ball, cube, cylinder, cone...by using these four shapes, I can draw any picture I want. And so can you!"  This newly packaged 64-page book features a full color glossy cover, step-by-step instructions, and illustrations to guide readers through the projects every step of the way. Learn to Draw is Gnagy's first published contribution for beginning artists. This book will enable young and old alike to awaken their hidden talents, finding fun and happiness through the creativity of drawing.

Jon Gnagy influenced many artists, including the late, great Andy Warhol. In fact, Warhol was quoted in an interview as saying, "Jon Gnagy taught me to draw...I watched his show every Saturday morning, and I bought all of his books."  In this newly packaged edition, Jon Gnagy takes readers through the fundamentals of drawing with lessons in perspective, shading, composition, figure drawing, animals, still life drawing, landscape and portraiture.

Gnagy's significant influence on artists in the 1950s and 1960s reached far and wide. He was the first televised art instructor, captivating his viewers with his logical instructions and assurance that anyone could draw.
