Cardiovascular vs. High Intensity Interval Training

Recently, at the ECA/Thrive conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Len Kravitz Ph.d. who teaches at the University of New Mexico, presented the following summary of cardiovascular training (CV) compared to high intensity interval training (HIIT).

Although the two types of routines are equal in some areas, shown are four great reasons to do high intensity interval training. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) is a key fitness reference and important for people with respiratory problems. Fat burning and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) serve weight loss. Depending on your goals, these comparisons can have major training implications for people who run, bike or swim.

Clubs can benefit by having Fitness Professionals who understand this chart and can safely implement high intensity interval training for their members. That is a gift of health!
