Basics of Estate Planning

Local author and estate-planning attorney Melinda Gustafson Gervasi will discuss the basics of wills, trusts, and probate as well her book, Middle Class Philanthropist: How Anyone Can Leave a Legacy. Books will be available for sale and signing. The author will make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation for every sale. Register online or call 845-7180.

Change the Way You Eat

Kirsty Blattner, creator of Healthy  Harmonized You, shows how to prepare delicious vegan, gluten-free meals in 5 to 15 minutes. This program provides recipes, food samples, and meal plans to energize you.  Registration is required and limited to 50 participants. Register online or call 845-7180.
Unleash Your Creativity

Anyone can be an artist when receiving step-by-step instructions from Tannis, owner of Art-vark Studios Paint and Sip. All materials are included, and you'll take away the painting "Frosty Blue" that you created. Register online or call 845-7180. Class size is limited to 30 participants. Please arrive 15 minutes early to ensure a 6:00 PM start time.

Notice to City of Verona Taxpayers
The City of Verona adopted the 2016 Budget on Monday, November 23, 2015.A copy of the adopted budget will be available on the City Website www.ci.verona.wi.us.

Tax Bills
The Treasurer's Office will mail out tax bill as soon as possible, but no later than December 21st. Payments will be accepted by mail, in person at the Verona City Center Administrative Office or by electronic payment at www.officialpayments.com. 

If paying in person or by mail, please include the bottom portion of your tax bill with your payment. First installment payments are due by February 1, 2016 and should be made payable to the City of Verona Treasurer. If payment is made by mail, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like a receipt.

After Hours Drop Box is located in the parking lot in front of the City Center and a second drop box can be found in the main front entrance of the City Center.

Lottery Tax Credits
If you owned your home on January 1, 2015 and used it as your primary residence you are eligible for a Lottery Credit. If the lottery credit does not show up on your bill, you may certify eligibility by filling out a Lottery Credit Claim form when you pay your tax bill. A Lottery Credit Claim form LC-100 is available at the Verona City Center Administration office or may be downloaded on the Department of Revenue Website www.revenue.wi.gov. The lottery credit applicable to the 2015 tax bill is $125.91.

Operation Toy Drive 
The Verona Police Department is partnering with Verona Farm & Fleet and 101.5 WIBA-FM for the annual "Operation Toy Drive" on December 9th and 10th, from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM.  We invite you to join us at the Verona Farm & Fleet, 600 Hometown Circle, Verona, WI to donate a new toy for this worthy cause. 

The Verona Police Department will collect donated items and assist with distributing them at the Verona Area School District's Helping Hands Holiday Gift Donation on December 16, 2015, at the Verona Area High School, 300 Richard Street.

Please help us ensure every child experiences the joy and excitement of opening a gift this Holiday Season!  Any questions about this event can be directed to Officer Ryan Adkins at (608) 845-0952.
2016 Dog Licenses

All dogs more than the age of five months are required by State Statute and City Ordinance to be vaccinated against rabies and licensed.  A rabies vaccination certificate must be presented before a license will be issued.  Dog tags for 2016 will be available beginning on December 15 and may be purchased in person at the Verona City Center Administration offices Monday through Friday 8:00 AM. - 4:30 PM or purchased by mail. The 2016 Dog License form is available at the City Center or can be downloaded here. Dog licensing information will be mailed to all dog owners on record for 2015.

A separate check should be written to the City of Verona.  The 2016 license fee is $15 if the dog is spayed or neutered, $20 if the dog is not. If purchasing your license through the mail, please remember to include a copy of your rabies certificate and a self-addressed stamped envelope and mail to the City of Verona, Attention Dog License Applications, 111 Lincoln Street, Verona, WI  53593. 

Senior Center Events
 
Effective Communication
Tuesday, December 8 at 10:30 AM
The Effective Communications presentation was designed to provide practical information and resources to help dementia caregivers learn to decode verbal and behavioral messages from people with dementia.  The goals of the presentation are for participants to better understand the changes in communication that occur with disease progression and how they manifest in the person with dementia, and to be able to identify ways to connect at each stage of the disease.  

Retro Swing Band

The Retro Swing Band is an eighteen piece ensemble formed as a senior recreation band. The music repertoire features music from the 30's, 40's, and 50's.

Music Begins at 12:30 PM
Let's send out 2015 in style with lunch and musical entertainment by Al Anderson.  Al Anderson will be performing his "Big Band Era" show which will include Guy Lombardo's "Auld Lang Synge".  We will do a countdown to 12 noon with a sparkling cider toast and talk about some memorable moments of 2015 before Al hits the stage.  Please RSVP for lunch by 12 noon on Wednesday, December 30.   Feel free to bring noise makers or festive attire (neither are required).

Recreation Opportunities 
Get active this winter with an adult exercise class!  The Verona Recreation  Department offers many exercise classes to adults of any fitness level.  Circuit Training is a full body workout that incorporates weight training as well as cardio.  Yogalates is a low impact class that incorporates both Yoga and Pilates.  Click here to learn more about the these classes and register online. 

We have two engineering classes beginning January 11th that run until February 15th.  Jr. Mechanical Engineering: Widgets & Gadgets teaches kindergarteners through second graders the fundamental concepts of energy, materials and movement.  Hardware Engineering: Get Wired with MaKey MaKey teaches second through fifth graders about acoustical engineering and game design in a fun, collaborative environment.  More information on these classes can be found here.

The Young and the Restless

Run, jump, slide, balance, dance! Our Young & the Restless open indoor play time is an opportunity for kids be active, develop motor skills, and make new friends. Ages 0-5 and their caregivers. No registration.

Learn computer science skills through Scratch with characters from
 Minecraft, Frozen, and more! No experience needed. Grades 2 - 6. Computer Lab.

Meet Santa's Reindeer
Saturday, December 12, 3:30 - 5:30 PM.
Take your own picture and learn more about these amazing animals. Warm up with popcorn, music, and a craft inside the library. The library will stay open until 5:30 PM for this special event. All ages welcome. Donations for the Verona Public Library Endowment will be accepted.
