Celebrating Success: The Tucson STEM Academy Follow-up Workshop
| |
Great teachers make all the difference in the world!
Each summer Arizona Project WET collaborates with Tucson Water to improve content knowledge and evolve teachers' instructional practices in the Tucson STEM Academy. Teachers invest five long days and commit to bring the instructional practices and content that they learned back to their classrooms. Last Saturday those teachers celebrated their accomplishments with APW staff and each other. Some classrooms performed home and school water audits, some created infographics, some created and managed aquaponics systems, and others designed rainwater catchment systems. Almost all the teachers utilized lessons that are available in the four Project WET educator guides they received during the academy. The photo highlights student work from the AZ Conserve Water Educators Guide. One teacher testified: "I thought that I knew quite a bit about water in AZ, but learned so much more after my participation in Tucson STEM Academy. I find that I can share information off of the top of my head." Another exclaimed: "Truly an excellent workshop! I have strongly recommended it to other teachers."
A few slots remain for the 2016 Academy. Interested teachers should contact Betsy Wilkening eweilkening99@gmail.com Learn more about APW here
