WEEKLY REPORT
Water RAPIDS: Invitation to share memories and historical knowledge for future generations

The WRRC and University of Arizona Cooperative Extension are inviting Cobre Valley communities to share memories and historical knowledge in a history making event. As people move in and out of the community and cities grow, we lose connections to our past. Community members are requested to document our history for future generations! On February 5th at Bullion Plaza in Miami, AZ, a very long and mostly blank piece of paper will be spread on the wall, ready to be noted with important events in the history of Cobre Valley. There will be a pizza dinner and plenty of reminiscing as we add to a shared history timeline.

Flint Crisis Raises Questions for Tucson's Water Experts

Dr. Sharon B. Megdal, WRRC Director, and Dr. Jon Chorover, Head of the Soil, Water and Environmental Science Department, were interviewed by the University of Arizona Daily Wildcat about water quality in Tucson in light of the recent crisis in Flint, Michigan. They both assured interviewer Amanda Oien that the water in Tucson has none of Flint's quality problems. Tucson Water monitors water quality continuously. According to Chorover, any elevated concentrations of metals would be detected. In addition, for the past 20 years major pipe replacement programs have been undertaken in Tucson. "There's no comparison [with Flint]," said Megdal. "The people here have nothing to worry about in terms of the quality of the water."
