Funding Extended to Engage Agriculture in Upper Gila Watershed
The Water RAPIDS (Water Research and Planning Innovations for Dryland Systems) program is pleased to announce additional funding to continue Watershed Planning in the Upper Gila Watershed through Nov. 2017. This funding, provided by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, will extend the project an extra year in order to expand the scope to include a particular focus on engagement of agricultural stakeholders in the watershed.
The Upper Gila Watershed offers a unique opportunity for this work. Agricultural water demand is 90% of the overall water demand in the region; and yet, participation of the agricultural sector in watershed planning has been minimal in recent years. This project expansion will examine effective process design and strategies for inclusion of agricultural concerns and voices in watershed management.
