Fall AWR Features Highlights from WRRC 2015 Annual Conference, Indigenous Perspectives on Sustainable Water Practices
The Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) has released the Fall 2015 issue of its quarterly newsletter, Arizona Water Resource (AWR). This latest issue features highlights from the 2015 WRRC Annual Conference, Indigenous Perspectives on Sustainable Water Practices, including the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Arizona Water Settlements Act and a guest column by the Governor of the Gila River Indian Community, Stephen Lewis.
The Fall 2015 AWR also includes a Public Policy Review column on "Collaborative Conference Planning and Continuing the Dialogue" by WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal, University of Arizona Assistant Professor, Extension Specialist Karletta Chief, and WRRC Associate Director Jean McLain.

WRRC Director Discusses Water in Arizona with KXCI Radio
In a recent interview with Melissa Mauzy from KCXI radio, WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal discusses how water works in Arizona, including the allocation of the Colorado River, the Central Arizona Project (CAP), and the 1980 Groundwater Management Act. This broadcast is the first episode of KXCI's Fathoming Water series. In her interview, Dr. Megdal also points out the importance of citizens being informed about local water issues and encourages people to attend a CAP-WRRC community forum on "Sustainable Water for Southern Arizona: Current Conditions and Future Prospects" on Nov. 6. The forum will be held from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Leo Rich Theater at the Tucson Convention Center and will feature a keynote address by Arizona Department of Water Resources Director, Tom Buschatzke, and a panel moderated by Dr. Megdal.

UA Faculty to Participate in Western Water Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah
Western Water Resources is holding the 2015 Western Water Conference on "Water Management Strategies for Addressing Long-Term Drought and Climate Uncertainty" on Oct. 28-29, 2015, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The two-day conference will focus on western water issues and bring together academics, agency personnel, and water management practitioners.
The goal of the conference is to provide information on management tools and approaches that can improve water managers' ability to cope with increased variability of drought and flooding.
WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal and water economist Dr. Bonnie Colby of the University of Arizona Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics will both be speaking at the conference. Dr. Colby will be speaking about surface water on Oct. 28 and Dr. Megdal will be talking about demand-side management on Oct. 29.

A Conversation on "What Arizona Can Learn from Israel on Water Use" On Nov. 2, azcentral.com, the Arizona Republic, and the Morrison Institute for Public Policy at Arizona State University are holding a conversation about water planning in Israel - one of the world leaders in desalinization and use reduction - and what might work in Arizona. The conservation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Phoenix, Arizona. Miriam (Miki) Haran, water conservation leader and Chairman of the Israel Consumer Council, and Sharon B. Megdal, WRRC Director, are the featured speakers. The conversation will be moderated by Brandon Loomis, Arizona Republic environmental resources reporter. It will be followed by a Q&A with the audience. Tickets are free and required for attendance. They are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Join C2E for a Halloween Party at Borderlands Brewing Company
Join Tucson Conserve2Enhance (C2E) Saturday, Oct. 31 from 7:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. at the Borderlands Brewing Company (119 E. Toole Ave, Tucson) for a haunting Halloween celebration to raise funds for future Tucson C2E enhancement projects.
The event will include costume contest with cash prices for top entries. C2E is a community-led program dedicated to helping homeowners and businesses conserve water. Donations to C2E provide funding to improve our local washes, reduce flooding, and increase wildlife habitat.

Grant McCormick to Speak at 2016 Land & Water Summit
The Xeriscape Council of New Mexico announced that UA Campus Planner Grant McCormick will speak at the 2016 Annual Land & Water Summit presented by the Xeriscape Council of New Mexico and Arid LID. The conference, themed "Creating and Sustaining Living Streets in the Arid Southwest," will be held February 25 & 26, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. Grant McCormick is a Campus Planner in the UA Department of Planning, Design, and Construction, where his work includes integrating stormwater management practices with rainwater harvesting techniques within campus development projects.

Executive Director Position, AZ Municipal Water Users Association
The Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA) is seeking an Executive Director to advocate positions and policies of AMWUA's Board of Directors, promote collaboration among the AMWUA members, and work collaboratively with other water interests to advance common goals.
AMWUA is a nonprofit corporation with a mission to protect its members' ability to provide assured, safe, and sustainable water supplies to their communities, as well as to advocate responsible water stewardship that supports economic prosperity and safeguards Arizona's water supplies for future generations.

Water RAPIDS to Participate in Annual CALS Poster Forum
On Oct. 29, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is holding its annual Research Poster Forum at the UA Student Union Ballroom.
The goal of the forum is to showcase all research at CALS, including research done in academic departments and extension, and to foster collaboration.
The WRRC's Water RAPIDS (Water Research and Planning Innovations for Dryland Systems) team will be presenting posters on the Conserve2Enhance program and their work on the Upper Gila Watershed.
