WRRC 2015 Conference Panels to Feature Experts on Tribal Water Successes and Challenges

Expert panelists will address the challenges of tribal water management and describe their successes during the University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center's (WRRC) Annual Conference,
"Indigenous Perspectives on Sustainable Water Practices." The conference, hosted in partnership with the Gila River Indian Community, will reflect the unique place of water in tribal life. Panels will provide a look into indigenous traditions caring for agricultural lands and current efforts to engage tribal youth in agriculture. In other panels throughout the two-day conference, tribal water leaders will discuss management decisions related to groundwater, the history and future of negotiating water rights settlements, and efforts to restore native riparian areas. The final panel will take lessons from the past to inform future management of water supplies.

Driving Water Conservation: The Conserve2Enhance Water Use Dashboard

The Conserve2Enhance (C2E) program connects voluntary water conservation to community action. C2E does this by directing participant donations, based on water savings, to funding for local environmental enhancement projects. To simplify this process, the Water Resources Research Center has created the C2E Water Use Dashboard, a free online tool designed to promote water efficiency, track water use, and raise revenue for environmental enhancement. The C2E Dashboard provides customized water use information for each participant. This includes a breakdown of indoor and outdoor water use, daily water savings, and a comparison of water use of individual participants with their community - all in a user-friendly, visually-appealing format with simple graphs and an easy-to-read water use "box score".
The Dashboard suggests a donation, based on participants water savings, and the integrated PayPal donation portal sends their donation to the C2E program of their choice. Administrative features are also built into the Dashboard. Learn more here.

WRRC Student Spotlight: Journalism Graduate Student Ann Posegate

Ann Posegate is a second-year master's student in journalism. She received her undergraduate degree in environmental science from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania and attended the Washington Semester program at American University in Washington, D.C. with a field study in South Africa. Posegate's work has taken her to mountains, deserts, canyons, rivers, cities, and even an ice sheet, communicating science and environmental concepts to many audiences. She has been an educator at the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire, an interpretive park ranger at Grand Canyon National Park, and a watershed educator in Washington, D.C. At the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC), she works as a Graduate Outreach Assistant under Water Sustainability Program Director Jackie Moxley. She assists in organizing and promoting events, as well as creating the new UA Water Network website, which will be a clearinghouse for the university's water-related research and activities. Learn more here.
