Presentation: Shift Happens
Speaker: Tice Supplee, Audubon Arizona Director of Bird Conservation
Time/Location: 12:00 - 1:15 p.m. / WRRC Sol Resnick Conference Room (350 N. Campbell)

Climate change is the No. 1 threat to North American birds according to a recent analysis by National Audubon Society scientists.  With a focus on the arid west and Arizona, Tice Supplee, the Audubon Arizona Director of Bird Conservation, will present the science behind the analysis. Join us to learn where potential "climate strongholds" for birds are located in our state.

Tice Supplee has 29 years of experience with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, including experiences in research, habitat management, game management, and urban wildlife. She has been with the National Audubon Society since 2005, where her work is focused on birds and their habitats. Her education is in wildlife ecology with a B.S. from Cornell University (1973) and a M.S. from the University of Arizona (1981).

Restoration of the CO River Delta: One Year After - Panel and Video Screening

On May 15, 2014, the Colorado River met the Sea of Cortez for the first time since the 1990s. Water from Lake Mead - 105,000 AF - was released as a "pulse flow" in a grand experiment to revitalize the delta. Join the Water Resources Research Center and the Water Sustainability Program on April 14, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m., when a panel of experts talks about the cross border politics and science behind this unique restoration effort. It will be an opportunity to view breathtaking video of the pulse flow and the subsequent greening of the delta on the big screen. The session will open with remarks from Sharon Megdal and a showing of RENEWAL - A Reborn Colorado River Once Again Finds Her Path to the Sea. The event will take place at the Gallagher Theater, 1303 E. University Blvd.

WRRC Assistant Director Susanna Eden Talks About CO River with AZPM

Susanna Eden, Assistant Director of the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC), talks about the importance of the Colorado River during an Arizona Public Media interview following the release of American Rivers' list of America's Most Endangered Rivers of 2015. The report ranks the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon as the most endangered river in the U.S. and lists harmful development, groundwater depletion, and uranium mines as threats to the Colorado. Dr. Eden pointed out water problems at the Grand Canyon are statewide issues affecting the economy, the ecology and the State's identity.
