WRRC Hosts Delegation of Women Agricultural Scientists from Pakistan

On Monday, Dec. 8, WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal and Associate Director Jean McLain met with eight women scientists from Pakistan to discuss issues related to agricultural water use in Arizona and current research projects focused on water use by irrigated food crops. The scientists are visiting locations in the U.S. from Nov. 29 to
Dec. 19 under the Women in Agriculture: Developing the Next Generation of Leaders project. They were invited to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program. As in the U.S., most scientists and research leaders in Pakistan are men. Women scientists are generally not tracked towards leadership positions. The three-week U.S. study tour will facilitate meetings between the eight Pakistani female scientists and agricultural research leaders to share their experiences and discuss strategies for advancing their careers and succeeding in this traditionally male-dominated field. Learn more here
