WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal On Panel At Morrison Institute's 2014 State Of Our State Conference
Arizona State University's Morrison Institute for Public Policy will host its annual State of Our State Conference on Nov. 14 at the Phoenix Airport Marriott.
The 2014 SOS Conference will feature the official launch of the Kyl Center for Water Policy at the Morrison Institute. The new center, named for former Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, seeks to generate policy proposals for public evaluation and consideration for possible action, and will promote research, collaboration, analysis and open dialogue to ensure sound water stewardship in Arizona.
The conference will also feature a panel discussion on Arizona's water future with Sharon B. Megdal, Director, UA Water Resources Research Center (WRRC), Michael J. Lacey, Director, Arizona Department of Water Resources, Kathy Ferris, Executive Director, Arizona Municipal Water Users Association and Steve Seleznow, President and CEO, Arizona Community Foundation.

Native Eyes Film Showcase To Host Last Event On November 12
Arizona State Museum's 2014 Native Eyes Film Showcase, "Honoring the Power of Coming Together," is a WRRC co-sponsored event that includes screenings of films by and about Native Americans and indigenous peoples, with the theme of honoring the power of coming together for social change.The last screening Oil and Water ($10/$8) will be held at the Loft Cinema on Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. Oil and Water is the true story of two boys coming of age as they each confront one of the world's worst toxic disasters. Hugo and David were born on opposite ends of the oil pipeline. Hugo comes to the United States to fight for the survival of his Cofán tribe in the Ecuadorian Amazon, while David goes to Ecuador to launch the world's first company to certify oil as "fair trade." New WIFA/ECH Report Dispels Five Myths About Water Pricing
The Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) and the Environmental Finance Center (EFC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill released Water and Wastewater Service Pricing in Arizona: 2013-14 Rates Survey Results, a report providing a detailed survey of current statewide drinking water and wastewater pricing and financial trends. The report also dispels five myths about water pricing: 1. MYTH: Higher rates are bad. 2. MYTH: Comparing rates is simple. 3. MYTH: Pricing is simple. 4. MYTH: Promoting conservation requires increasing block rate structures. 5. MYTH: Water is too expensive.

Nov. 14: Deadline To Submit Abstracts For AZ Water 2015 Annual Conference
Abstracts for the 2015 AZ Water Conference are due by Friday,
Nov. 14. The 88th Annual Conference, themed "A vibrant Arizona through safe, reliable water," will be held May 6 - 8, 2015 at the Renaissance Hotel in Glendale, AZ.
Suggested topics for papers are Arizona Water Strategic Plan, Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Water Resources/Reuse/Recharge, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collections, Utility Management/ Customer Service, Construction, Energy/Sustainability, Water for People, Manufacturer/Service Providers, Research, Safety, Asset Management, and Young Professionals.
