Cherry Creek Radio Talks Antibiotic Resistance with WRRC's Jean McLain

Sierra Vista's Cherry Creek Radio (KTAN 1420 AM) recently sat down with WRRC Associate Director Dr. Jean McLain to discuss her research on antibiotic resistance. McLain gave an hour-long interview to host Chris Dowling on the results of her recently completed University of Arizona workshop, "Antibiotic Resistance in Agroecosystems: State of the Science." The workshop, which was held in early August at Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Ariz., brought together experts from across the globe to discuss the impacts of agricultural antibiotics on the human food chain, and to reach an agreement on the best methods to study antibiotic resistance in soil and water. Listen to McLain's interview here.

WRRC Awarded $22,000 Freeport-McMoRan Grant to Fund Water Education

Freeport McMoRan's Community Investment Fund has awarded the WRRC a $22,000 grant to develop an Arizona Water 101 educational program in Green Valley/Sahuarita, Ariz.

The grant will fund an expansion of the Green Valley/Sahuarita Arizona Water Festival put on by Arizona Project WET -- which reaches about 1,000 4th grade students -- and an adult community education series on the water related challenges and opportunities facing the community.  The WRRC will supplement both of these outreach efforts with the development of educational video clips about Arizona's water supply, demand, policies, challenges, and more. C2E's Brittany Xiu Pens Article for Colorado WaterWise Newsletter

Brittany Xiu, Coordinator for the WRRC's Conserve2Enhance (C2E) program, recently penned an article published in the Fall newsletter for Colorado WaterWise.

Xiu's article, "Innovative Tool to Bridge Water Conservation and Community-Driven Environmental Enhancement," discusses the C2E program and its recently released Water Use Dashboard tool. The innovative Dashboard is a web-based portal for individual C2E participants to track their water use, water conservation, and donations to the program. The easy-to-use tool also makes it easy for any community group to start their own C2E program.
