ABC Changes Name to Agri-Business & Water Council of Arizona

The Agri-Business Council of Arizona (ABC) announced last week that it had changed its name to the Agri-Business and Water Council of Arizona.

ABC President Bill Plummer said at the Council's May 16 annual meeting that the new moniker better reflects ABC's history and purpose "to maintain the integrity of Arizona's water supplies and the industries that rely on these for the benefit of Arizona's economy." Plummer said the change echoes the Council's goals of educating its members on current water issues important to agriculture and agribusiness.

Science Nation: Recycled Water In Arizona Helps Stave off Drought

A recent Science Nation segment on the PBS NewsHour took a look at how water researchers in Tucson are helping stretch drinking water supplies as climate change and increasing population levels stress fresh water resources.

University of Arizona civil engineer Kevin Lansey, who has worked with the WRRC and the UA Water Sustainability Program, is using mathematical models to help redesign Tucson's water system to effectively integrate both fresh and recycled water.

AZPM: Melting Snow Won't Help AZ Rivers This Year, Forecast Says

WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal spoke with Arizona Public Media's Zachary Ziegler last week about the U.S. Department of Agriculture's recent forecast, which found that snowmelt this year will not significantly raise the water level in Arizona's rivers. "I think most of us living here in Arizona know that we've had a very dry winter," Dr. Megdal said, which resulted in less snow in the mountains and less snowmelt in the spring to recharge Arizona's aquifers.
