Call for Poster Abstracts: Student Poster Contest to Offer Cash Prizes

The WRRC is now accepting abstracts for the poster session at its 2014 Annual Conference. The deadline for submitting an abstract is Monday, Feb. 3. Interested students, researchers and practitioners are welcome to submit a poster abstract, and a student poster contest will offer generous cash prizes! Presentation: Agri-Business Council of Arizona's Perspective on Water and Agriculture in Arizona

Chris Udall, Executive Director of the Agri-Business Council of Arizona (ABC), will introduce Brown Bag attendees to the Council and its purpose, and familiarize them with the issues in which it is currently involved. Note: The WRRC will also webcast this presentation via Blackboard Collaborate.

Winter 2014 Issue of Arizona Water Resource Now Available
The WRRC has released the Winter 2014 issue of its recently redesigned quarterly newsletter, the Arizona Water Resource (AWR). The latest edition of the new-look AWR highlights land fallowing and satellite monitoring of groundwater, and features a Q&A with Raanan Adin (CEO, Adin Holdings Ltd.) and much more. The Winter 2014 AWR also includes WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal's Public Policy Review column, "Key Messages for CRWUA Highlight Arizona's Achievements, Yet More Efforts Are Needed." WRRC's Kelly Mott Lacroix to Give Jan. 21 UA Science Cafe Presentation
Kelly Mott Lacroix, Analyst for the WRRC's Water RAPIDS (Research And Planning Innovations for Dryland Systems) program, will give the first UA Science Café talk of the semester on Jan. 21: "Good to the Last Drop? Understanding Arizona's Water Opportunities and Challenges." Lacroix's presentation will be held at Magpies Pizza on 4th Ave. (605 N. 4th Ave.) in Tucson from 6 - 7:30 p.m., and is part of the "Follow the Water" themed Science Cafe series. U.S. Water Partnership Issues Call for Information on Technology
The U.S. Water Partnership (USWP) and several of its stakeholders have collaborated on a water technology commercialization initiative to develop an export marketplace for U.S. water technologies. The USWP recently issued a call for information on a range of proven, innovative U.S. water technologies that will be useful in addressing global water challenges. Selected technologies will be showcased at a State Dept. event in Washington, D.C. on March 21. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 27, 6 p.m. EST. Pinal County Extension Offers Jan. 30 Landscape Tree Health Workshop
The University of Arizona Pinal County Extension office is offering a landscape tree health initiative aimed at landscape professionals, "Managing for Healthy Trees," on Jan. 30. The workshop will be held at the Maricopa Agricultural Center (37860 W. Smith-Enke Rd., Maricopa) from 12:30 - 5 p.m. Pre-registration fees are $10 per person, or $8 for a group of five or more. UA Institute of the Environment Photo Contest Deadline: Feb. 14
Open only to University of Arizona students, staff and faculty, the Institute of the Environment's 4th annual "Eye on the Environment" photo contest features a theme of "People in action in the environment." Submissions must have at least one person in the photo.
The deadline for photo submissions is Feb. 14. Learn more and enter the contest here.
