Registration Opens Monday for 2014 WRRC Annual Conference

The Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) will open early bird registration on Monday, Dec. 16 for its 2014 Annual Conference. A special announcement will be sent out Monday that will include pricing information, links to the registration page and much more. Early bird registration will run through early March 2014. The WRRC Conference, "Closing the Gap Between Water Supply and Demand," will be held April 8 at the University of Arizona Student Union Memorial Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Nina Mason Pulliam Trust Awards Arizona Project WET $150,000 Grant

Arizona Project WET (APW) was recently awarded a $150,000 grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust to support the Water Investigations Program (WIP) in the Phoenix Valley. WIP efforts refine students' critical and creative thinking skills and environmental education during a year of inquiry into water resources and supply, water use and water in natural systems. WIP also assists teachers in transforming their instructional practices through the integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines. Learn more about Arizona Project WET and WIP.

Feb. 3: WRRC Annual Conference Poster Abstract Deadline

The WRRC is accepting abstracts for the poster session at its April 8, 2014 Annual Conference, "Closing the Gap Between Water Supply and Demand." 

 

The deadline for submitting an abstract is Monday, Feb. 3, 2014. Interested students, researchers and practitioners are welcome to submit a poster abstract, and students are strongly encouraged to participate!

C2E Program Installs Photopoint Monitoring at Mitchell Park Worksite

The WRRC's Conserve to Enhance (C2E) program recently installed photopoint monitoring stations at Mitchell Park, one of three recent recipients of a C2E grant to enhance local riparian areas. 

 

Mitchell Park visitors can now capture the changes about to take place from two photopoint locations. C2E will host work days at the site in January, and will soon add explanatory signs to the photopoint locations explaining how to submit images to the C2E team.

EnWaP Program Conducts Focus Groups to Develop Water Demands Roadmap

 

The WRRC is developing Arizona's first-ever roadmap for if and when environmental water demands should be considered in statewide water management and planning decisions. This week, EnWaP (Connecting Environmental Water Needs to Arizona Water Planning) analysts conducted six focus group meetings with participants from Pima, Maricopa, Yuma and Mohave Counties to help inform development of the roadmap. Learn more about the roadmap and the EnWaP Program.

 

WRRC's Kelly LaCroix Moderates GoGreen Conference Panel

 

Kelly Mott LaCroix, Research Analyst for the WRRC's Water RAPIDS (Research and Planning Innovations for Dryland Systems) program, moderated a panel at last week's GoGreen Conference in Phoenix. LaCroix moderated the panel, "Regional Water Innovation: Forecasting Solutions for an Ever-Thirsty Region."

Project WET Foundation Hosts Water Education Conference

The Project WET Foundation has opened registration for its 2014 Sustaining the Blue Planet Global Water Education Conference in Big Sky, Mont. 

 

The conference will be held June 24-27, and will highlight water education and awareness, and cover pressing water issues and real-world water solutions at the local level.
