Former Senator Jon Kyl has agreed to be the lunchtime speaker at the WRRC's upcoming April 8, 2014 Annual Conference, "Closing the Gap Between Water Supply and Demand." Sen. Kyl joins confirmed keynote speakers Sandra Fabritz-Whitney (Director, ADWR) and Kay Brothers (Co-Chair, Colorado River Basin Study Next Steps Working Groups Coordination Team).

Speaker: Ron Elkins, Wetlands Process Control Specialist for City of Phoenix Tres Rios Flow Regulating Wetlands


This presentation will explore the key facets concerning the City of Phoenix Tres Rios Wetlands. Multiple events led the City of Phoenix to the development of a tertiary wetland treatment system at the 91st Avenue Waste Water Treatment Facility. Ron Elkins will give an overview of the history and events of the as-built project, as well as a review of the operation of the project, which has shown interesting results in many areas, such as water quality and habitat restoration.Note: The WRRC will also webcast this presentation via Blackboard Collaborate


Early Bird Registration for WRRC Annual Conference Opens Next Week

The Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) will open early bird registration next week for its April 8, 2014 Annual Conference. Early bird registration, which will run through early March 2014, includes cost savings on registration fees.

 

The 2014 Annual Conference, "Closing the Gap Between Water Supply and Demand," will be held at the University of Arizona Student Union Memorial Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Poster Session Deadline Extended to Dec. 20 for WRRC-AZWater Workshop

The deadline to submit a poster abstract for the Jan. 15, 2014 WRRC-AZWater workshop, "Transforming Research into Practice: Finding Solutions to Arizona Water Challenges," has been extended to Dec. 20. Click here to submit a poster abstract.
The day-long (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) interactive workshop aims to bridge gaps between scientific research, industry and utilities, and will feature a special session honoring the research legacy of Dr. Herman Bouwer. Registration is $40 (AZ Water Member), $50 (Non-Member) and $20 (Student).  Learn more here. Register here.

Arizona Project WET (APW) was recently featured in The Nature Conservancy's 2013 Arizona Annual Report, "Celebrating People and Nature."

WSP Distinguished Speaker Stanley Pollack to Give January Talk

 

Stanley Pollack, Assistant Attorney General for the Navajo Nation, will give a talk on Thurs., Jan. 30, 2014 as part of the Water Sustainability Program's Distinguished Speaker Series. 

 

Pollack will present, "Little Colorado River - Failure of the Settlement and the Triumph of Social Media," from 4 - 5 p.m. at the University of Arizona College of Law (room 160).

WRRC Co-Sponsors Booth at CRWUA Conference in Las Vegas

 

WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal will travel to Las Vegas next week to represent the WRRC at the 2013 Colorado River Water Users Association (CRWUA) Annual Conference. The Dec. 11-13 conference includes a Dec. 12 Arizona State Caucus Breakfast. The WRRC will co-sponsor an exhibitor booth with the Central Arizona Project (CAP), Salt River Project (SRP), Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) and the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA). Arizona Project WET and Conserve to Enhance (C2E) Now Hiring

Arizona Project WET (APW) is recruiting for the position of Pinal County Water Education Coordinator (full time, based in Casa Grande). See the complete job listing and apply here (Job #53909). 

 

The WRRC is also hiring a 0.50 FTE Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to work with the Water RAPIDS (Research and Planning Innovations for Dryland Systems) team. This one-year contract position starts January 2014. Read more and apply here.
