Project WET Assistant Earns NASA Space Grant

 

Alex Prescott, Program Assistant for Arizona Project WET (APW), has been named a recipient of the UA Department of Hydrology and Water Resources' NASA Space Grant. The Department also recently named Prescott a UA Science Ambassador after a competitive selection process to evaluate excellence in academic, research and leadership endeavors. He will represent the Department at College of Science community outreach events. Prescott was also awarded the College of Science Dean's List with Distinction Award for 2012-2013. Dr. Jean McLain to Speak at Pima County Brown Bag

 

Dr. Jean McLain, Associate Director of the WRRC, will give a presentation at the Pima County Flood District's monthly Brown Bag seminar at noon on Wed., Oct. 2 in downtown Tucson. 

 

McLain will give the presentation, "Antibiotic Resistance and Recycled Municipal Wastewater: Is There a Link?"

C2E Conservation Dashboard Coming Soon


The Conserve to Enhance (C2E) program will soon unveil a new tool for promoting and tracking water conservation. 

 

The upcoming Water Use Dashboard -- an online conservation tool -- is nearly complete. It was unveiled on Sept. 20 at the Arizona Hydrological Society's annual conference in Tucson, Ariz. The Dashboard will also be featured in a session at the WaterSmart Innovations 2013 Annual Conference on Oct. 3 in Las Vegas. 


APW Wraps Up West Valley STEM Workshop

Arizona Project WET (APW) recently completed its Phoenix West Valley STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy for teachers. Educators in attendance learned new teaching methods to help them apply STEM materials to real-world applications. Teachers designed a number of projects to help students better understand groundwater, including systems to store surface water, water fields, move stored water and more. 9/28: Volunteers Needed for Atturbury Wash C2E Enhancements


Tucson's Conserve to Enhance (C2E) program will host a work day the morning of Saturday, Sept. 28 at Atturbury Wash, C2E's first riparian enhancement site (hosted by Tucson Audubon Society).

 

Stop by the Atturbury Wash work site in Lincoln Regional park Saturday morning and lend a hand, or just see how the site has changed. Click here for more information on how C2E is turning voluntary water savings into local habitat improvements.
