Cooking Classes for Residents We are very excited to have a new volunteer at Good Neighbor Center, Janon from Simmer Down Catering, who is going to be teaching cooking classes to our residents. Every six to eight weeks she will teach our residents how to plan and prepare healthy meals on a budget. She will also provide ways for our residents to create healthy meals using food already in the pantry. In addition, Janon will give pointers for pleasing the pickiest of eaters. This cooking class is a great opportunity for our residents to learn not only ways to cook, but also healthy habits that will translate into a healthy lifestyle once they are out of the shelter and cooking for themselves.

Donor Appreciation The Good Neighbor Center would like to recognize Dalton's Northwest Catering for the generous amount of food they provide to the shelter. There are three meals -plus snacks-served to our nine families each day, and we rely on our community to help keep our shelves stocked with food. Dinners are cooked by volunteers on a nightly basis. The food Dalton's Catering donates is typically served that night or as a special treat the next day for breakfast or lunch. Thank you, Dave Dalton, for supporting Good Neighbor Center for all of these years; your generosity is truly appreciated and helps so many people.

Lunch is provided to each attendee from GNC and bus tickets are provided to each resident by the shelter; those bus tickets are donated to GNC by members of our wonderful community. Every summer, the shelter looks forward to having new families attend the Oregon Air Show, this is a fun and exciting activity for all ages.

Director's Note We are wrapping up week five of our Summer School program with a special treat. Eleven of the older kids will go fishing at Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen on the Clackamas River on Saturday, July 20, courtesy of City Kids Fishing Club. City Kids Fishing volunteers give disadvantaged youth a great chance to catch a few nice rainbow trout and, in the process, create memories of an exciting outdoor experience. read more... |
