Soap and Water Raise Funds to Support Homeless Families.

Last month we had a group of volunteers from PGE come for the day and host a car wash on site at the shelter. Some stood out by the street with signs and others were close by with buckets and rags waiting patiently for people to drive in with their dirty cars.
In the three hours, volunteers washed over 40 cars, raising over 400 dollars total.
This is a great example of community support.

Community, what is it?

While we traditionally think of a community as the people in a given geographical location, the word can really refer to any group sharing something in common. This may refer to smaller geographic areas -- a neighborhood, a housing project or development, a rural area -- or to a number of other possible communities within a larger, geographically-defined community.

Homelessness is a serious issue in every community whether we want to admit it or not. Good Neighbor Center helps house families temporarily so that they can focus on getting back on their feet. The shelter was founded by the community and is supported by the community. We couldn't continue to meet the needs of the homeless families without community support.

Who Cares?

An Article Written By Rose Browning, Case Manager at Good Neighbor Center

When families come to Good Neighbor Center they often feel that nobody in the world cares about them or their situation. Most of these families have never lived in a shelter; it is the last place they thought they would ever be, often our shelter is their last hope before moving into their car or a camping situation.

It doesn't take long for families to realize how great our community is. We have donors bringing in clothing, household items, food, hygiene items and just about anything else our families need on a daily basis.
