Greetings!

November is typically a time when we all think about the things for which we are grateful.  Most of us take these things for granted throughout the year: a roof over our heads; a warm meal; a winter coat; rain boots.  But for homeless families, these aren't things to be taken for granted; they're necessities that are sometimes out of reach.  At Good Neighbor Center, we are trying to put these things - and more - within reach for struggling families during the holidays.

Dimes for a Difference
Whole Foods

Don't forget to take your reusable shopping bag to Whole Foods Market Bridgeport!  For every reusable bag used between October 1 and January 20, a dime will be donated to Good Neighbor Center.  Whole Foods Market Bridgeport: 7380 SW Bridgeport Road Tigard 97224

 Thank You Providence Scholls
mittens and scarfs

Thank you so much to the great people at Providence Medical Group Scholls for their continued support.  Each Providence clinic chooses a local charity to support and in August the Scholls clinic chose to support the Good Neighbor Center.  As an office, they collect donations based on our needs and this month they collected children's winter clothing.  Thank you again for your generous support!

Director's Note

Hurray!  We have had a great deal of success lately in placing families into permanent housing through the Shelter Plus Care Program we operate in conjunction with Washington County.  Shelter Plus Care (S+C) is a federal program that provides a rental subsidy for hard-to-serve homeless persons with disabilities. The disabilities that are eligible primarily have to do with mental illness, chronic health problems or other conditions.  These families can be very difficult to place in the regular housing market.

Thanksgiving
Food Boxes

Waggener Edstrom and Unitus Community Credit Union are sponsoring our Thanksgiving food boxes this year.  There are 17 families in our Housing Stabilization and Shelter Plus Care programs that will be receiving boxes this Thanksgiving.  Included in the boxes is everything necessary to create a full homemade Thanksgiving meal: a turkey, stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie, and anything else a tummy could desire! Thank you to both companies for your support!
