Intern needed for  Good Neighbor Center Summer School Program

The Good Neighbor Center, a homeless family shelter in Tigard, provides a summer school program for children ages 5 to 14 who are staying in shelter. This program will begin June 18th 2012 and will run Monday through Thursday, from 8:30am to 2:00pm, for 9 weeks. The group size will range from 5 to 15 children.

The summer intern will work with the Children's Program Coordinator to plan and oversee fun and educational activities for school-age children. This includes curriculum planning for elementary and middle school levels.

The summer school program is very structured. In addition to helping with classroom activities, the intern will help supervise weekly outings to the movie theater, local parks, a swimming pool, a community garden, and various field trips.

The Good Neighbor Center is seeking a responsible, organized, and energetic individual with an interest in education, family and human services, and/or homelessness. Ideally, this candidate would have some experience working with school-age children and with curriculum planning.

This is an opportunity to volunteer in a classroom setting with elementary age children. Our volunteers gain valuable skills working with kids and connecting with the community. You will gain great skills that can be used to enhance your resume and possibly benefit future job opportunities.

In order to apply for this position, please send a resume and cover letter via email to Colette Gillies, Children's Program Coordinator, at kids.ed@goodneighborcenter.org by April 30th 2012.
