Check Your Paycheck
The September 15 paycheck is the first payroll for all employees in this contract year. Be sure to check your pay stub in Skyward to ensure deductions are correct. If you have questions, call Karen or Erica in the Payroll Office, 341-2228 or 341-2428.

Rally for Education
Emporia educators are joining the Alliance to Reclaim our Schools with a walk-in from 7-7:30 am Thursday, Oct. 6 at Emporia High School. Walk-ins are being planned across the country to raise awareness to improve school funding. The EHS band will play and donuts and coffee will be provided. For more information, contact Erica Huggard at EHS.

Jobs for America's Graduates
Congratulations to the EHS JAG program and teacher Ali Macias for receiving state and national awards based on 2015-16 results. JAG Specialist Ali Macias received a 2016 national High Performer Award and she is one of 20 JAG-K specialists to earn the 2016 Outstanding Specialist Award. In addition, EHS received a prestigious 5 of 5 Award for meeting or exceeding the five most critical performance measures for the JAG Program: Graduation Rate, Successful Outcomes Rate, Job Placement Rate, Full-time Jobs Rate and Full-time Placement Rate.

United Way Campaign
All employees should have received information about the 2016 United Way of the Flint Hills Campaign. Return pledge forms to your building/department United Way chair by Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Community Drive for Students
The annual Community Wide Drive for Student Needs starts Sept. 19 to collect clothing, hygiene products and other items for Emporia students. See flier for a complete list.
Donations can be taken to Price Chopper, Flinthills Mall, Dillon's, Emporia State Federal Credit Union, and Emporia's Radio Stations through Oct. 14.  The drive is sponsored by the Student & Family Resources Office and all donations will be shared with our schools and offered directly to families. For more information contact Heather Wagner at 341-2392.

Preschool Services
Superintendent Kevin Case discussed the need to serve additional 3 and 4 year olds. While the district added 30 slots for preschool this fall with the Mobilizing Literacy Grant, approximately 25 students remain on the waiting list. He stressed the importance of early education is looking at ways to provide services to those on the waiting list. 

Commissioner to Visit Emporia
Superintendent Kevin Case reported that Kansas Commissioner of Education Randy Watson will visit Emporia Thursday, Sept. 22. Dr. Watson will visit Maynard Early Childhood Center and Riverside Elementary before meeting with the district administrative team at Mary Herbert Education Center.

Other Board Business

The board approved the following:

  • accepted a bid from Muckenthaler Inc. for $31,649 to replace a freezer in the Food Service Dept at EHS
  • a request to let bids for E-Rate funding for 2017-18 for internet access, telephone services and related costs
  • request to dispose of surplus property
  • a donation of risers, picnic tables and charging stations to WA White/Turning Point Academy from the school's PTO valued at $5,405.26
  • a donation of $850 to Walnut School from the Doris L Frederick Peters Memorial
