Teacher Laptops
The Technology Department plans to update all teacher Lenovo laptops before the end of school or during the summer. If you use a Lenovo laptop, schedule the update with the building technology support personnel in your building before the last day of the school year or leave it with the building tech on your last working day of the school year.

District Staff Recognition
The District Staff Recognition Program is scheduled for 5 pm Wednesday, May 18, at Emporia High School. All district employees are invited and may bring a guest. Sign-up sheets will be in buildings later this month. Please RSVP by noon Monday, May 9.

Wellness Program Success
The District Wellness Committee has distributed another round of Fitbits to employees who have completed Level 2 of the Wellness Program. Thank you to the Hopkins Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield for funding the 20 Fitbits distributed in March.

Successful Bunny Hop 5K 
Despite the rain, 130 runners and walkers participated in the Bunny Hop 5K March 26 at Riverside School. The event raised $1,600, which will be split between the school and the ENEA Read to Your Bunny Project.

Village Supports Heart Health
Village students, led by PE teacher Andy Battenfield, raised $5,388.48 for the American Heart Association. Students participated in Jump Rope for Heart during the month of March. Mr. Battenfield has sponsored the event for the past 11 years.

2017-18 Calendar Adopted
The board adopted the academic calendar for 2017-18 as recommended by the Professional Development Council.

Legislative Update
Rob Scheib summarized the school finance bill approved by the legislature this session. The Kansas Supreme Court will hear arguments next month in the school funding lawsuit. The court will decide if the new school finance bill provides equitable funding for public schools.

Lifetime Fitness Curriculum
The board approved the purchase of Lifetime Fitness units for EHS physical education classes.

2016-17 Student Handbooks
The board approved updated student handbooks for 2016-17.

Consent Agenda
The board approved the following:
  • An agreement to continue the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) Program at EHS
  • Request to let bids for food and food service supplies
  • Disposal of surplus technology equipment
  • Use of flexibility clause for scheduling building PLT at Maynard, Riverside, Village and EMS
  • A $750 donation to Logan Avenue from the St. Patrick's Day Committee for eBooks
  • Donations totaling $10,612 for staff appreciation from the Hopkins Foundation
  • A $6,000 grant from the Mathematical Association of America to start a math club at EMS
  • A contract to repair drainage pipe at EHS
