School Board Recognition
Enrollment Projections
The board heard a report on district enrollment history and projections for the next five years. The report shows the trend of declining enrollment has turned around the past two years. Two-year enrollment projections show an increase in enrollment, while 5-year and 10-year projections show the declining trend may continue. The report also projects enrollment for each school, based on the 2-year and 5-year models.
ESU Welch Stadium Agreement
The board approved a request from the Emporia State University Athletic Department to negotiate a new 10-year agreement to use Welch Stadium for EHS football games. The board agreed to the requested total commitment of $225,000, with $75,000 to cover fees for using the stadium and $150,000 going toward the replacement of the field turf. The action is subject to a final agreement that is approved by the district's legal counsel. ESU will accept district payments in installments.
Board Reports
Legislative Update - Rob Scheib gave a summary of bills that have been introduced in the legislature that would affect school districts.
FHTC Board of Trustees - Grant Riles reported that total enrolllment at the college is down slightly, but high school student enrollment is at a record high.
