Tour de Village Saturday

Food Service 
Now Serving Fanestil Meats
The District Food Service Department is now serving Fanestil ham and chicken as part of the Farm to School project.

Options for employees also have been increased this fall. Staff members can order a chef's salad for $2.50 or a ham or chicken sandwich on homemade wheat buns for $2 each. Orders must be placed with Geralyn Strait before 9 am and the food will be delivered to your district building before lunch. 

Community Health Fest
The Emporia Public Schools are joining with Healthier Lyon County to sponsor a community health fest Saturday, Sept 19, 8 am-noon at the Flinthills Mall. All employees are encouraged to attend. 

Staff are encouraged to bring biometric screening information and Health Risk Assessment if you want to meet with BCBS disease management specialists for a free health coaching session. All employees can attend the FREE health coaching sessions with BCBS regardless of health insurance coverage.  
Be sure to sign in at the EPS Wellness Program Booth for points toward your Wellness Program goal.

Superintendent Search
The board accepted a notice of retirement from Superintendent Theresa Davidson, effective June 30, 2016. At a future meeting, the board will discuss a process to fill the vacancy.

Applications for Board
The board will interview six applicants for a vacant seat on the board starting at 6:30 pm Monday at Mary Herbert Education Center. Six individuals have applied:  Jennifer Dalton, Shilo Good, Jeff Lutes, Colleen Mitchell, Iona Moore and Melissa Reed. The interviews will be done during an open meeting.
Lease-Purchase Kansas Avenue
The board authorized the administration to pursue a lease-purchase agreement for the Kansas Avenue building with the Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas. MHCECK plans to house children's services and move the Gateway program to the Kansas Avenue location.

Utility Monitoring Agreement
The board approved an agreement with Utility Cost Control of Overland Park to audit district utility expenditures and look for possible refunds and/or reductions of our utility costs. 

Budget Adoption Resolution
The board adopted a resolution to publish a second notice of the budget as approved by the board.

Consent Agenda
The board approved these consent agenda items:
  • Request to dispose of surplus property
  • Updated the list of eligible depository of funds to include Community National Bank & Trust
  • A $5,000 donation from the Reeble Foundation to the EHS Theater Department
  • A $5,500 donation from the Walnut PTO to remodel a restroom at the school
  • A resolution adopting the Lyon County Mitigation Plan as submitted by the Office of Lyon County Emergency Management
