Important Reminders
Lump sum payments  
will be made June 30.

* Employees making  Section 125 changes for the summer need to notify the Business Office by June 1.

 

* Official transcripts and college hour forms must be received in the Business office by Sept 1, 2015, for any certified staff moving on the salary schedule.

 

Sale of Computers

The district will sell approximately 400 desktop computers with 19-inch LCD screens on June 23. The sale will be at Emporia Middle School, Room D3 (Tech Ed) from 8 am and to 3 pm. The computers will be sold for $60 each on a first-come, first-served basis. Each person will be limited to two computers; the limit will be removed after 1 pm. Computers may only be picked up that day.

For buyers unsatisfied with their purchase for any reason, there will be a three-day no-questions-asked return policy. The computers are 6 years old.

 

Summer Meals Program

Dates and locations for the Summer Meals Program have been set. Breakfast and lunch will be served at Riverside & Village starting May 26, at W.A. White & Camp Alexander starting June 1, and at EMS starting June 8.

 

MHEC Summer Hours
Summer hours at Mary Herbert Education Center will be 7:30 am - 4 pm Monday - Thursday June 1 - July 31. The building will be closed Fridays during June and July.

Presidential Award Nominee

Frances Wecker, Emporia High School science teacher, has been named a 2015 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching nominee. The finalist will be announced June 22 in Hutchinson at a reception and awards dinner.

Donation to Band Program
Board President Mike Crouch, left, and EHS Band Director Bob Haselhuhn accept a donation of $30,000 from Emporia Masonic Lodge No. 12 during Wednesday's board meeting. The money will be used to purchase instruments.  Emporia Lodge and Eastern Star Chapter also will pay the registration for 11 EHS band students to attend band camp in July.

Geometry Textbooks
The board approved the purchase of Geometry textbooks and online access for $19,200. The total cost reflects a credit for returning previously purchased Algebra textbooks.

Policy Updates
The board approved new policy covering student publications, new technology device user guidelines, and policy revisions related to student records.

Student Handbooks
The board approved student handbooks at all grade levels for 2015-16. 

Consent Agenda

The board approved the following:

  • Accepted a $30,000 donation to the band program from the Emporia Masonic Lodge
  • Request to sell approximately 500 desktop computers
  • Request to let bids for food and supplies for 2015-16
  • An agreement to continue the JAG program at EHS in 2015-16
  • Accepted a $35,000 Migrant Services Summer Grant from the State Board of Education
