The Power of One!
#IceBucketChallenge

Many individuals from the district have participated in the #IceBucketChallenge to raise awareness and research funds for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). We have received many video accounts from principals, teachers and friends who have accepted the challenge.
Riverside Principal Jared Giffin took the challenge for his entire school last week and approximately 250 students and staff poured cold water on Mr. Giffin and raised more than $240 for ALS research. Some staff at Mary Herbert Education Center also got involved in the challenge last week (see photo above). George Abel agreed to "take one for the team" after being tagged by Mike Crouch, board president.

Hostess Contest Winner
Julio Alfaro, a 2014 Flint Hills Learning Center graduate, submitted the first-place entry in   Emporia's 2nd annual Twinkie Festival in July. His prize was $300.
