Meet a 2013 - 2014 APF Fellow

 

Dr. Pazit Beckerman and her family

Dr. Beckerman is a nephrologist from the Nephrology and Hypertension Institute at Sheba Medical Center in Israel. She is currently engaged in post doctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Katalin Susztak at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA. Dr.Beckerman's research focuses on the epigenetics of diabetic kidney disease using advanced epigenomic and bioinformatic tools. 


After she completes her post doctorate, Dr. Beckerman intends to return to Sheba Medical Center where she will combine academic research and clinical work, and take part in the training and mentorship of future doctors and students.

    

 

Dr. Beckerman is grateful for the APF grant, stating "We were welcomed by a cold and stormy winter, yet your invaluable support warms our hearts, as it will enable me to dedicate myself full time to scientific and academic work during the next few years".

 

2014-2015 Grant Application Now Available  

We would like to inform you that the fellowship award application for the 2014-2015 fellowship year is now available. The application deadline is March 15, 2014.

Four Israeli Nurses Receive Intensive Training Thanks to the 2013 Solomon Hirsh Nurses Education Fund

In 2013, four Israeli senior nurses visited the Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Ohio to shadow the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) to learn more about the structure of the neonatal APRN education program. 


The Solomon Hirsh Nurses Education Fund, established in 1988 through the generosity of a former Board of Trustee member Dr. Richard N. Hirsh, in memory of his father, sponsors intensive specialty training in leading North American medical centers for Israeli nurses.

 

The Hirsh Nurses represented four Israeli Medical Centers: The NICU's at Sha'are Zedek Medical Center, Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, and Soroka Medical Center.
