Marist's Suarez gives new meaning to term 'triple-double' by Jim Hague - Hudson Reporter
|
The statistics just jump off a scorebook into the newspaper and then into what are supposed to be the conscious mind.
Marist High School senior do-everythingManny Suarezhas been compiling some of the most impressive statistics ever recorded, some that are even too unbelievable for words.
"When he had 14 blocked shots, even my brother called me to say, 'C'mon, 14?' " Marist boys' head basketball coachTony Romanosaid. "He couldn't believe it."
But it's true. In the Royal Knights' 88-67 victory over Arts of Newark last Friday, Suarez had 34 points, 15 rebounds and 14 blocked shots. It's not a misprint.
It's also not a fluke, because Suarez had 25 points, 19 rebounds and nine blocked shots in a 71-57 win over Bayonne, the Royal Knights' first victory over their cross-town rivals in 12 years.
And to back that up, Suarez had 21 points, 15 rebounds and 12 blocks in a recent win over Lincoln.
On Tuesday, Suarez had 19 points, 15 rebounds and nine blocked shots in a convincing 57-40 win over Snyder at the Tigers' Den.
"It's really some crazy stuff," Romano said. "There was one sequence in the game against Arts where he blocked four shots in a row in the same possession. He's going out and blocking jump shots on the perimeter. It's not just close to the basket. He's blocking shots all over the place. It's pretty unique. He's putting up crazy numbers." Imagine a place where you can go to escape, where you can connect with nature, God and yourself. Now imagine meeting people from across the nation that share the same beliefs, interests, hopes and dreams as you do. Well there is such a place and it is called Esopus. Located in Esopus, NY the Marist Brothers started a retreat house that has given hope to Marist youth across the entire western world. In Esopus, many retreats and getaways are held for Marist schools to share their message of "making Jesus known and loved".
