SB 283 (CalFresh Eligibility) Call In Day
Tuesday August 20, 2013
|
Dear Partners,
Thanks for your support all year long for SB 283! SB 283 would end the lifetime ban on people with prior drug felony convictions from receiving federal food stamp benefits and make our communities safer. Benefits would be restored only for people playing by the rules and complying with the conditions of probation or parole.
Right now the bill is in the "suspense" file of the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Tomorrow we'll be urging people to make phone calls and emails to the Los Angeles delegation that are members of that committee asking them to pass the bill. Phone calls especially to the chair of that committee will be especially valuable. He is Assemblymember Mike Gatto, whose district covers Burbank, Glendale, Silver Lake, Echo Park, La Crescenta and nearby areas.
Here is what we will do:
§ Make Calls. See the calling script below calling Script (August 20 Call In Day). Telephone numbers are on the attached list. § Send Emails. See the attached list of legislators (SB 283 Assembly Approps Staff Complete) & sample email messages. Let's improve the safety of our communities, reward people who have successfully finished their sentences and are in compliance with their parole and probation conditions. For more information on the bill: see attached "SB 283 Re-Entr Access to Jobs as amended" Join us on the August 20th day of action and Help us spread the news and share this with friends.
Best regards,
Peggy
