Responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) - Workshop 2/14/13
|
Overview
Focusing on RFPs issued by Los Angeles County and the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, this half-day workshop is designed to help non-profits successfully compete for public funding. It is geared especially for small agencies that may not have submitted prior proposals or that may not have the services of an experienced grant writer. In an interactive format, the workshop will cover the basics of applying for funding including planning and managing the proposal development timeline, understanding the application questions and how to respond appropriately, asking questions of the funder and monitoring the responses to gain clarity, meeting insurance and other threshold requirements, and many other details that result in a successful proposal.
Workshop Leader
Steve Renahan, Senior Policy Advisor at Shelter Partnership, Inc. will conduct the workshop. Steve has more than twenty-five years of experience designing, managing, and evaluating RFP processes for housing authorities and other public agencies.

Building and Sustaining Partnerships and Collaborations - Workshop 2/20/13

Most public funding opportunities require that proposing organizations demonstrate the ability to fully leverage existing community resources in both the initial proposal and the fulfillment of the contract. This usually means developing relationships with other community service providers. But how do you do that? What should be the nature of these relationships? Facilitator and Instructor Training - 2 Day Workshop 3/13 & 3/15/13

Overview
What's the difference between a "facilitator" and an "instructor?"
Often professionals are asked to facilitate a project planning session or a meeting or teach a course. When do you pull out your "facilitator hat" and when do you put on the "instructor hat," and aren't those hats interchangeable? This hands-on, two-day workshop is designed to define the differences in these roles and give participants the opportunity to practice skills and techniques essential to each. The training is limited to 20 people and is available for people that are required by their roles to both facilitate work sessions and conduct training. Read More....

LARRP Seeks Advisors for Capacity Building Program Design
|
LARRP is rolling out a capacity building project in 2013 designed for reentry service providers.
The program will have three areas of focus: (1) Organizational Capacity, (2) Community Impact and (3) Systems Impact. The design is a combination of instructional modules in a classroom setting, as well as opportunities for providers to apply learning in day-to-day business. In addition, providers will be matched with coaches who will be available to support the providers with hands-on advice. We are recruiting participants in an advisory work group that will be asked to assist in program design and will be eligible to participate in the pilot program.
The pilot cohort of participants will be selected through a competitive application process. Participating organizations will be chosen based upon: (1) history of providing reentry services to the community; and (2) agreement to meet the criteria and commitments of this effort, as outlined below. The initial capacity building efforts will include a cohort of up to 12 organizations. To be eligible, these organizations will be required to:
- Be reentry providers. This means that at least 40% of their program time is spent working with individuals who are returning or have recently returned from jail, prison or juvenile detention facilities.
- Have a demonstrated need for capacity building. This means the organization does not have sufficient flexible dollars to invest in their own capacity building exercises.
- Have an operating budget of at least $100,000. There are no maximum budget criteria.
- Commit in writing to attend all of the capacity building meetings, barring an unforeseen, excused absence, and making their best efforts to contribute their expertise to making the process successful.
