California Forward to Share
Realignment Experiences in Other Counties
& State Networking Efforts

LARRP Membership Meeting
September 13, 2012
9:30 am - Noon
Amity Foundation
3750 S. Grand Ave.
Los Angeles, CA  90007

California Forward is a statewide effort with a mission to "work with Californians to help create a "smart" government - one that's small enough to listen, big enough to tackle real problems, smart enough to spend our money wisely in good times and bad, and honest enough to be held accountable for results."  The organization is tackling realignment through their new Partnership for Community Excellence.

We are delighted to welcome Sharon Aungst the Director for the Partnership for Community Excellence.  Sharon will discuss CA Forward's focus on providing information and assistance to build the capacity, culture, infrastructure and integrated systems necessary to successfully implement Realignment and improve public safety outcomes. She will share some of the successes and lessons learned from other counties as they implement their realignment plans.  They recently released their report County AB 109 Plans: Analysis & Summary (http://www.cafwd.org/pages/pce-resources), which allows comparisons of implementation strategies and resource allocations among the counties.

Ms. Aungst came to California Forward from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation where she had been Director of Correctional Health Care Services since 2009.  She has extensive experience leading and managing correctional, forensic and community mental health services for both adults and children.

Join us for this informative presentation and discussion.  In addition, we will receive updates from County Departments involved in implementation realignment and reports from the LARRP committees & subcommittees on their latest activities and plans.

Attend the Public Safety Realignment Team Monthly Meetings

Realignment in Los Angeles County is managed by the Public Safety Realignment Team (PSRT), which was created by the Board of Supervisors to report and advise the Board on public safety realignment matters.  The PSRT meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the County Hall of Administration.  Each meeting has a period set for public comment so this is an opportunity to give input directly to the decision-makers.

Meeting agendas and locations are posted on the internet: http://www.ccjcc.info/ccjcc_home.asp

LARRP Reentry Service Provider Directory

Another Survey??!!!

And, a long one at that!  We wouldn't be asking for your help in completing this survey if it wasn't important.  Unless you can tell us differently, there isn't a comprehensive list of reentry service providers in Los Angeles County.  And we need one desperately!

LARRP needs it to inform the entire community about capacity development and advocacy opportunities and Los Angeles County needs it to keep all of us up-to-date as the County assumes more and more responsibility for community reintegration.

Please go to:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LAReentryServiceDirectory
to complete the survey.

Please contact [email protected] with any questions.

Submit Your Input for the
2013 National Drug Control Strategy

White House Logo

The development of President Obama's inaugural National Drug Control Strategy (Strategy) included extensive dialogue and consultation with policy makers, practitioners, subject matter experts, and partners across the Nation and around the world. As a result of this robust input, the inaugural Strategy presented a comprehensive approach to reducing drug use and its consequences.   The recently released 2012 Strategy likewise incorporates input from a diverse range of stakeholders while providing an update on our efforts to:

  • prevent illicit drug use in our communities;
  • intervene early in the health care system;
  • strengthen drug treatment services and support the millions of Americans in recovery;
  • break the cycle of drug use, crime, and incarceration;
  • disrupt domestic drug production and trafficking;
  • strengthen international partnerships; and
  • improve drug-related information systems.

As a stakeholder and partner, we want to thank you for your contributions to the Strategy and for the work that you do every day to reduce drug use and its consequences.

We are beginning the development of the 2013 Strategy, and your input will be vital as we seek to continue the Administration's record of reform in advancing a balanced, modern drug policy.  We welcome you to submit your input for the 2013 Strategy either through our website or by emailing your comments directly to [email protected].  Please provide your feedback no later than August 9th.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we seek to reform, rebalance, and renew our national drug control policy to address the public health and safety challenges of the 21st century.
