A Message From Our Principal

Spring is here. I'm always surprised how quickly March comes around. We always have a lot going on in the spring. Attending school regularly is the first step in keeping up with increased rigor in school. Not only will it make it easier for students to keep up with their work, but good attendance habits developed in middle school will help students prepare for high school.

I will be hosting a Q & A time for parents and community members on Tuesday, March 11th between 5-6pm in the Library. It is open to everyone. Feel free to drop in and ask general questions about our school, education in general, or just to say hello. Our PTC meeting will follow at 6pm which you are welcome to stay for.

Spring Break is scheduled for March 24-28. There is a district wide furlough day on Friday, March 21st, so students will be off starting March 21st and school will resume Monday, March 31st.

After Spring Break we will be starting our State Assessments. Our first round of testing will take place during the month of April. All grades will be tested in Reading and Math. 8th graders will also take the state Science test. In order to help students prepare for the increased rigor of the new standards, all 6th grade students and 7th and 8th grades students who were at grade level benchmarks or below last spring were placed in a Math lab or a Literacy lab. We will use this spring's assessment results to determine placement in labs for next year. 6th and 7th grade students scoring 3 points above their grade level benchmark or higher will be able to take an elective in place of a lab class. More information on this will follow in the spring.

For 8th grade students and parents, the high school will be hosting an 8th Grade Family night on April 9 from 6-8pm at Sandy High School. This is an opportunity to learn a little bit more about transitioning to high school. More information will follow. 8th graders will be forecasting for their freshmen classes in April as well. 8th graders will receive their high school forecasting information through Mr. Farris's Social Studies class. Parents will be required to sign the forecasting sheet, so look for that in early April.

Have a great spring!
