Library Info

BMS would like to extend a big thank you to the Boring Middle School PTC. They purchased books for this year's Oregon Battle of the Books.  Your help is so appreciated.

Thank you Lance and Walt, for making a drop box for the hallway outside of the library.  Now it is easier than ever for students to return their library books on time.  The new drop box is located in the hallway just outside of the library computer lab doors.

A Message From Our Principal

It's hard to believe the Holiday season is upon us.  As we move through November and into December, attendance is crucial.  There are long breaks scheduled in the next few weeks which make attending on the days we have school very important.  With the new grading system, students must demonstrate their understanding on their assessments.  The daily lessons and homework practice are important pieces for students to be successful on their tests and quizzes.  Please make sure your student is in attendance as much as possible.

Starting in December, we will be collecting canned food on behalf of the Boring Fire Department and also have a Giving Tree in the foyer.  Look for more information to come about how we can give back to families in need in our local community.

Our new security system is scheduled to be up and running starting November 19th.  The front door will be locked and all parents/visitors will have to be buzzed in.  There is a small camera and speaker located to the left of the front doors where our office staff will be able to speak with you and ask to see ID if we don't recognize you.  Although an inconvenience for some, this will help keep our students and staff secure during the school day.

Have a great November, and I wish you and your family all the best during the upcoming holiday season!

Tim Werner

Leadership News
The next two months in Leadership class are busy ones!  Our biggest event for November is the Run n' Rake.  This is a community service project where students and parent volunteers help senior citizens in the community and/or local schools in the area in need of help with the raking of their leaves and yard clean up.  The project takes place on November 16th from 9:00-3:00pm.  Permission slips were available to students on November 6th and were due back no later than November 12th.

We are continuing with the Box Top competition as we did not quite meet our school wide goal of $750.  If you have Box Tops at home, be sure to send them to school with your child!

Leadership will be putting on a BMS talent show!  Applications may be picked up at the office and must be submitted by November 21st.  The talent show will be held on January 10th from 6:00-7:30pm.  More information can be found in the application packet.

In December, we will be working in partnership with the Boring Fire Department and doing a canned food drive and the giving tree.  More information will be provided as the dates approach.

Important Immunization Requirement

Hepatitis A vaccine will be required for all students in 2014. Now is the time to get your child vaccinated against Hepatitis A.  Hepatitis A is a viral infection that can result in liver disease.  If you have already had your child immunized, turn in the dates to the school office.

The vaccine is administered in two doses given 6 months apart.

Call your doctor or Clackamas County Health Dept at 503-655-8799.

Free immunizations are available to Oregon Trail students at the School Based Health Clinic located at Sandy High School.  To make an appointment call the clinic at 503-668-3483.

Perfect Planner Participation Pass

PBIS is implementing a new incentive to encourage students to effectively use their planners to track their homework, projects, and classwork.  Once a month students will have an opportunity to earn a Perfect Planner Participation Pass which can be redeemed at the student store for a special reward.

Here is how it will work.  Teachers will check students' planners once a month.  If students have completed their planner for all periods for the entire week, teachers will give them a coupon.  The coupon must be redeemed at the school store, as a fast pass, on the following day.

Student of the Month-Honesty

Students were asked to nominate fellow students who demonstrate the qualities of honesty.  Those qualities include:
  • Being truthful
  • Being Sincere
  • Acting honorably
  • Being fair
  • Being genuine
  • Not misleading others

Congratulations to the following students:

6th grade:  Emily Hutchings & Jordan Hickey

7th grade:  Cassidy Tobias & Brendan McAra

8th grade:  Karli Shields & Julian Carpenter

BMS PTC Information

Thank you to all of those families, friends and students who participated in our "Mixed Bag" fundraiser. You helped us raise $3,522. This will go a long ways towards our goal of $10,000. The money raised from this fundraiser and future fundraisers will go towards our PBIS program, Teacher Requests, Sports Scholarships and year end activities.  Winners were announced on Tuesday.

Last month we allocated $305 towards the purchase of books for this year's Battle of the Books. Good luck to all participants.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 10th at 6pm in our library. Hope to see you there.

Remember, we couldn't do what we do without you.

A note from the Athletic Director: Mr. Luebbert

Volleyball Season Wraps Up - The Boring volleyball teams had a great fall and started the middle school sports' year off by finishing at the top of the league.
The 8th grade girls earned a 2nd place finish, with an overall record of 8-4.  The 7th graders would not be outdone though, winning the conference title with an undefeated season at 12-0.  Congratulations, girls and coaches!

Boys' Basketball Kicks Off - The boys' basketball season officially started this November, and the buzz could be heard from miles away.
The successful program that Coach Mandy Vance and Coach Doug Lewis have established, looks to have another record breaking season for participation, as the    8th graders aim to defend the crown last year's boys brought home.

Please come out and join us in supporting our Bears in their four home games this month!
