| |
Are you dreading your property transforming into a cold field of snow in just a few short weeks? Winter doesn't have to be your enemy; here are four ways to keep your landscape functional and looking good through the cold months. Now all you have to do is count the days until the snow melts and you can get back out there.

Install an Ice Melt System
This may look like a completely normal driveway, but come a heavy snowfall it won't require extensive shoveling like other walks in the area. A temperature sensor triggers electric coils to produce heat which then radiates up through the pavers and melts any snow or ice that is present.

Plant Winter Interest Superstars
Lenten rose is a flowering perennial which begins blooming in January and continues through March. Another plant to try is colored-twig dogwood. When they lose their leaves, they reveal bright red, yellow, or orange stems that show off well against a backdrop of dormant grasses or evergreen shrubs.

Stay Warm in a Sunroom
If your climate is far too cold for spending time outdoors during the winter, a sunroom is a great option. They're fully insulated and have dual-pane windows, heat and electricity, a solid roof and foundation, and plenty of windows so you feel as though you're sitting outside, yet have all the comforts of home.

Close Down Your Pool
If you haven't done so already, now is the time to close your pool for the winter. With an automatic cover, winterizing can be as simple as pushing a button. To avoid unnecessary strain on your cover caused by a heavy load of snow, make sure the pool's water level is kept high.
