Greetings!
 | | Thompson Lange, Carmel Chamber Board Chair |
Chair Message
Yesterday we once again gathered at Rancho Canada for our annual Carmel Chamber Membership Luncheon. I've always found the luncheons to be a really nice way for the Chamber to acknowledge and honor our members. And of course, the wine doesn't hurt either.
I guess my favorite part of the event is the Spirit of Carmel awards that are given to Chamber members and volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their giving back to Carmel. Our CEO, Monta Potter conceived of the idea a few years back and our list of honorees has included many a worthy and deserving Carmelite.
But I want to take a moment to single out one person we've honored with the a "Spirit of Carmel" award. Gary Hamada hosted a radio program "For Locals Only" on KRML for a number of years and when I was Chamber Board Chair in 2008 he would have me on weekly to talk about the goings on around town. He was always interested in all the people, events and gossip that makes Carmel the quirky little village we all love. Gary was one of Carmel's most vocal cheerleaders and I was so happy when he was singled out by the Chamber in thanks. When Gary lost his battle with cancer in March, he left a huge hole in many a heart.
Having thanked Gary and said our goodbyes, let's make sure we recognize the importance of all the great people around us who contribute to our lives every day. Together we'll continue to embody the spirit of Carmel.
