Turning New Year's Resolutions into Sacred Intentions
H ave you made your New Year's resolutions yet? Or are you one who has resolved to never resolve ever again?
New Year's resolutions are made every year - often the same ones over and over again - lose weight, exercise more, have more prosperity, achieve life balance and harmony.
These are all great concepts. Who doesn't want better health, more energy, more money, more time and a more balanced life? We all do - so why do these ideals stay a wish for the future instead of becoming a reality of the present? Why do so few people actually achieve their goals?
One reason is the reason - your "why" that propels you to seek change.
Are your reasons connected to your mind or to your heart?
Are they based on an outer idea or expectation or an inner desire? Are you seeking to meet your own or someone else's expectation of what should be or a true need of your own heart? Will achieving this goal fix something or please someone, or is it an act of self-love - something you truly want to do for you?
You're never going to meet those outer pictures of what you believe should be. You'll never be truly satisfied living up to someone else's expectations or fitting in to society's pictures of what is "right." These reasons only lead to failure and disappointment.
You've heard that change comes from within. Before the change can come from within, the desire for change has to come from within - from your heart.
Your mind is busy. It's easily distracted and dissuaded. But the heart is the portal for knowing your true self, your connected self, your divinely-inspired self, your sacred self.
So ask yourself - what if your heart yearning for? Your heart may truly want the same things - in many cases it does. So, trace these resolutions to the desires of your heart, and let yourself feel the yearning. Let yourself feel your "why" from the depths of your heart. Stand in your commitment to your sacred self.
Say goodbye to the New Year's resolutions - they rarely work. Instead, welcome in your Sacred Intentions.
Have a Joyful Day! Debra Graugnard

3 Amigos Talk Fortune Telling
a word from Donna Jamila Crews

Who woulda thought it----3 amigos being a Jew, a Sufi and Christian Preacher!!

That was the first surprise. Then they talked how to predict the future. Okay then---not new agey, but religious dudes.
When we got down to business-----the topic of the talk, Sacred Intention, caught my ear.
Sacred Intention--choosing a Divine Quality to bring into your everyday life during 2013.
Now that sounds appealing. I ponder and ponder---which Divine Quality would feel good for my soul in 2013?
I know----Peace-filled Certainty. I realize this is two Divine Qualities, but you know how I am with following instructions.
Next teaching---How do I practice Peace-filled Certainty in my everyday actions?
Excellent Question!!!! Okay, I am eagerly waiting to see just how to do that.
.
Answer: Spiritual Practice. Of course---here go all those "shoulds, oughts, will never work for me" voices spinning in my head.
Wait, wait. Keep listening.
Spiritual practice is defined as whatever works that helps me feel Peace-filled Certainty, even if just for a moment----walking outside, reading inspirational books, reflecting what I am grateful for.
So what about the voices spinning in my mind?
The 3 amigos call these pesky voices "negative imaginary scenerios" swirling in my mind.
I like that label. Catchy. Okay, fine. And what just what do you do with those pesky voices?
The 3rd amigo led us through a Meditation "Sit down, be quiet, breath through your nose, take your attention to your heart, tell your heart "I love you, I thank you, I am so grateful for you".
Well, a lot to absorb. I believe I will sit down, breathe, and be with my heart a bit. Maybe even say "I love you, thank you, I am so grateful for you."

2 spaces left for "2013: One Month at a Time"
We have 2 spaces left for the tele-program 2013: One Month at a Time. The program starts next week - Tuesday, January 8th at 5:30pm Pacific / 8:30pm Eastern.
My friend, Donna Jamila Crews, and I recently completed a joint tele-program called Harness Your Holiday Hunger. We had so much fun hosting the program, and the participants realized such great benefits. We decided we have to do more programs together. Hence, the 2013: One Month at a time program was born.
I want to share with you some of what the Harness Your Hunger group had to say:
- Group support--Participants felt the presence of the group, especially during stressful times. They knew they were not alone, and they were able to resist temptations and make healthier food choices.
- Awareness--Participants reported being aware of why they were wanting to eat when they were not hungry, and as a result they made healthy choices instead of overeating or eating junk.
- Practical steps--The steps they learned were simple and practical - a natural flow. They were more aware of their bodies' messages, and following the steps became a natural response instead of turning to food.
- Spirituality through food--Connecting 'spirituality and food' helped participants see food in a new light - their relationship with food as a reflection of their relationship with their bodies and with the Divine.
- Accountability--Participants found it easier to follow through with healthy choices, plus had mercy and compassion for those times when not so healthy food choices were made.
The 2013: One Month at a Time program will follow a similar format. Donna and I invite you to join us for this journey. Try it for one month and see what you think.

Holistic Hints

Sometimes feeling our emotions can be uncomfortable - even scary.
We can create many barriers and defense mechanisms that keep us from experiencing our own feelings. Keeping up these defenses takes a lot of precious energy and keeps us from living our lives to the fullest.
But under every scary emotion is a need or a yearning, and every need or yearning is connected to an innate divine truth.
Be true to yourself; trust yourself; get to know yourself. At your core lies truth, and in this truth is strength and safety.
Take refuge in this ship of safety.
