Here is a quick update on the spit after the storm.
There were three tide cycles on Monday and Tuesday during the storm. The tide, strong wind and waves drove water very high over the Spit:

As you can see in this amazing video by Bob Pinto, the force of the waves broke through the Spit
And left a number of breaches and sand deposits like this one across from the southernmost tip of Popponesset Island:

Thankfully, with the guidance of our engineering firm over the years, we have permits in place for repairs. In collaboration with the Town of Mashpee, a front loader has already begun preparing to put the sand back in place. |

There will be more work to do this but this is why our organization exists. We will continue to work to protect the Popponesset Spit and Popponesset Bay. And we will share more information as it becomes available. As you can see, your financial support is important to finance this work and upcoming expenses to repair this damage and return the Spit to its prior shape. Please use PayPal (see link to the right) or send a check to our mailing address below. Save Popponesset Bay is an all-volunteer 501 c 3 organization. |
